I totally agree with the bolded part above. I don't think there is anything cute about trivializing sexuality to 6 year olds or 9 year olds, or 15 year olds. Once up on a time we protected our kids from things they were too young to understand. We relished their innocence. Now days we clap to them shaking their butts to songs about sex. It says something very sad about our society.

And I've seen several people comment that their kids don't understand what it means anyway. But with today's readily available technology its only a short keystroke away on google.

You sure are using a lot of "we"s in your post. Who exactly is "we"? As far as I can tell, no one in this thread ever said "I clap when a kid shakes their butt to a sex song". I certainly don't do it. I doubt very much from your posts that you are doing it. You (along with others in this thread) are making a lot of blanket statements about other people because of the actions of one parent with one disruptive 6 year old kid. I don't get it.

Once upon a time kids went to work in sweat shops , coal mines and farms to support their families... I am not for sexualizing children but lets not pretend that the past was all roses and now we are awful.. because that is just not true...

The thread has evolved, much like all of them do. We are now discussing things other than just this one 6 year old boy.

No, once upon a time kids worked like adults and were far from protected...

I can not stand negativity and over generalization. Things were not all perfect before and things are not all bad (and going into the toilet) now , especially because of one song...

Apples and oranges here. Sweat shops and coal mines have zero to do with sexualization of young children. Nobody said everything was sunshine and roses but there were some things..like not exposing a child to sexual songs/movies/content and allowing them to be young innocent children that used to occur and that was a good thing.

Yes "we" as a society. Several posters on this thread have said they see nothing wrong with young children listening to music like this because "it is part of pop culture" or "it doesn't matter because they just don't understand the words" or "words are just words and I let my kids listen to everything" I've read those type of statements on here several times.

And there was discussion on this thread to a kids dance studio doing a routine to this song. I didn't read that all the parents got up and complained.

I'm making blanket statements about the bulk of our society as a whole. Its very sad. I don't see the past with rose colored glasses, and I surely don't see the future that way either. Just becasue we've saved our kids from segregation and sweat shops doesn't mean that we have created a better world for them. Just a different one.

Teach your kids what is appropriate and what is not. Listening to this song doesn't make you a bad parent or a bad kid. This song (and others like it) are not what society needs to be concerned about, or at least it is nowhere near the top of the list of concerns. Starving children, bankrupt families, and the future of the education system are far more important and should be the focus of all parents of today's youth, not what's playing on the radio. If you don't like the song, then don't let your kids listen to it, but you have absolutely no right to pass judgement on anyone who listens to it or their children. Period. I'm out.

I am sorry but calling the next gen.. "generation trash" is pretty much all negative if you ask me.. and that is when I jumped in to the conversation.

And I know you can do both.. but you also have to raise children who are aware and can function in society... so you pick your battles... it also depends on what age your children are and where you live.

Okay, I know I said I was out, but I have to address this since you are telling me I am part of the "problem". You just said:

I COMPLETELY agree with that statement. YOU worry about YOUR kids, and I'LL worry about MINE. No one else needs to be concerned about what my kids listen to. They are my kids. I would never dream of telling someone else how to raise their kids. That's just wrong.
