first ever complaint for Disney (disappointed guest)

Did they ever promise any band does anything? I don't think so. At least not that I've seen. In that case, there is no false advertising or misleading of customers

Then why have the limited bands at all when they already have limited release they did officially state that the difference between the two was one had special effects while the other was the design that wouldn't be around long
So yeah bad marketing
Plus the price difference is basically paying for the effect but should have been clear where those effects are made say for example
Joe buys the Easter band on his last or only day at the park well joe will never get to hear it on his trip as he bought it after already inside the park, but there was no warning when he bought the band

I looked to see where they say some of the bands do something and i can't find it. Can you point me to it? Not a website by fan but an official statement from Disney.

As for why have LE bands of the price difference if they don't say they do something special, that is just because they can. They don't have to give reason for a higher price. LE items often have higher prices just because they are LE

Now logic tells you that most people would expect something more for a higher price but there is no rule that something must be given

I realize it is disappointing if they didn't work as you expected. I'm just not sure Disney was in the wrong. Unless You can find where they claim they do X but they only do Y

Not trying to start an argument just expressing how I feel about the issue I've read on here countless other posts of people's issues that I considered small but still it to the person matters shouldn't have to justify just because someone else has an opposing opinion
To me I'm upset over the magic band limited edition not being clear and now realizing they may not always work
Not anything wrong with my opinion

My son's Olaf band from summer 2014 still has all the bells and whistles at the tapstiles. But his picture no longer gets caught on Buzz Lightyear or other attractions. Seems to have to do with long range vs the short range. @Accident would probably have a more accurate answer though.

Perhaps in the future, you might consider researching a band before purchasing it. I know with the Star Wars bands, @yulilin3 gives us all a heads up as soon as she knows what any of the Star Wars bands could/would do if anything. Many of the super bloggers post info the same day a band is released.

From a marketing perspective, Disney would never list what a band can't do. That would not be beneficial to the sales. But it sure would be nice if they mentioned what it could do.

No there is nothing wrong with your being disappointed
I was only attempting to point out that unless there is something out there official that states what the bands do then Disney didn't mislead

Well the fact is most people want them when they come out and usually the first day the effects aren't even turned on but then ppl don't have any info on the bands till about a week or two until after they've been released. And many people don't even know Disney offers limited edition or what they do or how they differe from limited realease, or oven box editions

Fair point I'm just saying it would be nice if Disney would issue some discription even if it's not on the item but a little card near the price where merchandise is kept on shelves

Maybe already answered, OP, but what do you expect Disney to do with your complaint? I can't imagine something else coming out of it besides a reply saying, 'we understand your disappointment and we appreciate your feedback, thank you for taking the time to raise this topic to us'.

That would be nice but I suspect they don't want to be held to anything specific with regard to what they do. There could even be times where they can't do what they do now, if there is a glitch in the system

I suspect too, that they think the majority of guests buy bands for how they look vs. what they do. I know I bought the valentine band because I like the look

Respectfully, it's up to Joe to know what he's buying. Very common advice in investing states, "past performance is no guarantee of future results."

Right, but just as with virtually all other vents, you should expect opposing views.

If the guest has bought a LE or special-featured item in the past, it probably makes more sense for that guest to inquire about any/new/comparable/missing features vs the older version. If the guest hasn't bought that item's earlier incarnation/s, they reasonably can't have any expectations except what's stated.

The long range that is used for pictures and tracking features has a battery that wears out. An effects band uses more battery so the long range will die faster as well as the effects not working anymore. I'm not sure what's different about the front gate ticket/finger scanners but any band on it's way out, thats the first place I have trouble with them. I didn't see anything official about how long they last in my searches, but cast members in person will say up to 2 years.

I personally take every band they want to give me. I wear the band I want to use plus put the newest free band in my bag. So far this has worked well for me, assuming I want to bring a bag of course.

Not completely on topic but the bands eventually die and I've seen it be very short lived and even with yearly trips, have some band that needs to get replaced.

The front entrance and fastpass points use NFC. There is no battery in the band involved. That should always work regardless of the state of the battery used for long range. They are independent. Tapping your plastic card has the same effect. There is no battery in your plastic card.

If you go over the specs of the touch terminals (fcc paperwork is all I could find) it doesn't appear that cut and dry but agree, it should work. My personal when a band stops working experience is the ticket entrance is the first place you'll see the magic band act up. It's worked well for me as a gauge of when it's at it's end.

Dude. I get where u are coming from. I have acre of the first limited bands. CD-ROM day one they have been hit or miss for us. Sometimes they do something other times they don't during trips. My Olaf one seems to always rainbow tap but th sound is very hit and miss. My Halloween one only seems to do something in mk and doesn't do anything anywhere else and now doesn't do anything anywhere. My Mickey with ice cream bar never did anything. I have no idea if it should or not. Can't ask cast members cause they have no idea I have found out.

Most cast members don't even realize what the Olaf one is cause my daughter only wears it now. I had it switched to hers vs mine and most cast members never vein saw it that I have encountered.

I do feel for you. Cats sad that you thought you were getting something that doesn't do what u thought and there really isn't any way of knowing except reading from people who have used them and even then the answers are half baked cause I really think they act different every time. Lol

How old are your band that quit working? None of ours have yet. Our oldest are from 2014

well the whole band doesn't stop working as a PP mentioned, it's the ride photos that suddenly stop appearing and the rest of the band should never die. I've had 2 limited edition bands become unreliable with ride photos before I started to carry that second one in the bag with us. My daughter has had 2 just die. one arrived bad and never worked and the other was a limited edition that started to miss photos about a year after we got it. I assume they only make 1 run of limited edition bands per design so we got it about 5 months after it was first introduced so it was closer to 2 years from my best guess as when it was manufactured.

well in my opinion its better to actually voice the complaint because if nothing is said than garnet noting will ever be done

i agree the look is a big factor but there is a noticeable price increase like on my upcoming trip i plan on trying to get the zootopia band knowing it has no effects

Respectfully, it's up to Joe to know what he's buying. Very common advice in investing states, "past performance is no guarantee of future results."

well then the cast members should be more informed as most don't even know about the limited edition just being said disney should provide info, and I've never not replied to any opposite views, or ignored them.

yes i plan on wearing the effect bands but also having a new one on me or in a bag myself!

thank you! and i just don't know how well limited bands were thought out i guess lol

yes 1 run of limited edition are made a set number like i said its an issue that i believe needs to be addressed as we are paying for these

So, someone needs to develop an inductive charger for MB batteries...

Some of the bands do make a sound when touched to a tapstyle. I believe the OP is disappointed that the sound may not occur at EVERY tapstyle. I think there are some that make a tapstyle sound only at DHS and some that do so only at park entrance gates, and I don't know about the others. And even then, sometimes they break or they skip the sound at the tapstyle.

I'm sure you're mostly kidding, but...
The inductive charger is no problem.
It's the MBs that don't have the ability to receive (and make use of) the induced current.

It would be no problem for them to add the coil and diode to the internal circuit during manufacturing (and, of course, a rechargeable battery) but that's just not part of the design.
