I know that things are going to be much different from previous stays at the World now that I am a DVC member. What should I know? Anything different I should bring?

I was going to ask that myself! Our first DVC trip will be this October at AKV. Can' t wait !

It actually won't be too different from your other stays, other than much bigger accomodations:thumbsup2 . And that you won't have housekeeping, but really, you won't miss it. I would say, don't forget your coffee liners for the coffee maker and bring your own coffee. Thats probably my most important thing. We're going in April too!! Can't wait!

Thanks for the coffee filter tip! Which type do we need to buy for AKV?

I always bring extra washclothes, because I like a new one each time I wash my face.

I always bring a pump of liquid soap, because bar soap is so messy.

I forget why, but hanging our long toiletry bag (some people use a shoe holder) did not work on the bathroom door of our studio at AKV. DH figured out a way to hang it in the entryway to the bathroom area. It was fine & sort of worked as a "privacy curtain" anyway.

We also are going in April.

Being new to DVC, don't forget your membership card! If you are planning on going to WDW around 10 days this coming year, get annual passes with your DVC discount. Once you have your AP's you can get DDE card (Disney Dining Experience), costs $65 and you can get 20% off, including alcohol, at Table service meals.

If you are driving, bring drinks and snacks. You have a refrigerator now. Part of the "value" of DVC is the ability to save on meals and drinks.

if your driving i'd suggest 1 big towel for each person - great for the pool but even better for the shower. maybe i'm alone in this but i always hate hotel towells for getting out of the shower. they aren't bath towels they are more like hand towels

Another newbie - what is the discount on an annual pass?

TRASHBAGS!!!!!!

Seriously, there are never enough in the rooms and we seem to generate huge amounts anyway, and the bags that are at the bottom of the trashcans in the DVC rooms are really weenie...

And I like to bring what I call a "designated vacation smell candle". Dec 2007's trip was Mediterranean Cypress, which made the whole room smell like a christmas tree. This april is our first trip to Vero, and I'm getting a big kick out of figuring out which candle to pick out. Then when you get home and light them it takes you right back to your vacation again! :cloud9:

Ohmigosh, what a neat idea! I would like to try this, but will have to be careful as DH seems to be allergic to a lot of scented candles. So far we've had luck with some of the Glade essential oils candles.

never thought of trash bags but couldn't you just call down for some?

i'm just wondering why it's our responsibility to bring things that by rights should be provided.

bringing a candle, bigger towels, your own pillow is all a personal choice but would you bring toilet paper or should the resort provide that?

Enjoy all the "Welcome Home" greetings that you will get!:yay:

With having a kitchen/kitchenette available, know where the local grocery store is! We go to the Publix store before we arrive at the resort to pick up the things we will need for quick breakfast and snacks or even larger meals if you have a 1-2 bedroom.

Something we take when we are in a studio room and our girls are sleeping on a pull out couch, their Disney princess comforter! princess: Bring a little bit of home with you somehow! :lovestruc
(we drive our Minnie van:rotfl: )

:woohoo: Doing the dance!

I like my super fancy drawstring force flex trashbags. I'm a weirdo that way. Well, in many ways, but that's one :lmao:

Next time, we'll probably bring 1 roll.
During our stay Christmas week at AKV, it took over 6 hours to get some t.p. delivered to the room...and we had already run out & finished up the box of tissues!

Just returned from our first trip home in January. Things I brought that I used: coffee filters (regular), coffee, dryer sheets. Things I brought that I didn't use: extra dishwasher tablets. We also bought an extra 4 load Tide at the gift shop but didn't use it all -- I just wasn't into laundry on vacation unless I really needed it.

One thing I was surprised about was how I felt that I had to keep turning off lights because we are paying for the electricity, darn it!

I know that you'll have a great time and have years to fine tune what works for your family.

There are plenty of trash bags in the room. Just look underneath the full one. They are usually in the bottom of the basket and can. You can also just call down to housekeeping for them too.

By "regular" coffee filters, do you mean cone or basket shaped? VERY important to have our extra bold roast in the morning....first thing! ;)

If you aren't renting a car or driving in, you may want to check gardengrocer.com for all of your grocery needs. You can order online and then deliver to your resort. Saves on precious time!!
