I'll be heading to WDW at the end of this month and it will be my first trip with a DSLR. Since at this point I don't have much equipment (camera, extra battery, extra CF card), do I take my bag into the park or just use the neck strap?

Congrats on your first DSLR trip! I always travel with a bag. My cameras go in the bag for rides, rain and meals :) right after a food porn pic :)

I too would take a bag. You'll have some place protected to place your camera on rides, when eating etc.

I have never taken a camera bag into the parks with me.

However, I do always take a Camera Poncho (basically a 1-gallon Ziploc bag) to protec the camera from rain or water rides.

You mentioned "an" extra CF card. I recommend you hurry up and find some inexpensive cards and buy more before your trip! Unless you have a laptop to download your pics nightly, you should have 1 card for at least every two days of trip time, and ideally one card for each day, so that your pics don't all wind up on the same card. One false move, one card or camera malfunction, or one good swan dive from a POTC boat, and you could lose your whole trips worth of pics, unless you divide them up onto multiple cards.

Enjoy! Your pics will be the best you've ever taken at WDW.

I concur. Though I have taken a bag in the parks for my camera and found it to be more of a pain than anything else. If you don't have extra lenses then I would get an Op/Tek strap (those neck straps that come with the camera are worthless). The better strap will make carrying the camera around your neck much much much more comfortable.

I typically have the camera either around my neck or in my hands. For my extra lenses I use lens pouches that attach to my belt. 2 or 3 extra memory cards and an extra battery go in my pocket.

I just ordered the Op/Tek strap. The Olympus strap killed my neck

I am really looking forward to seeing your pictures! :woohoo:

I can't wait to take them. I was hoping to have the second lens before my trip but I think that will have to wait until I get back.

We carry an over the shoulder bag that has a front section for the camera and one zoom lens (wrapped in a t-towel to protect it if the bag is put down) and a back section for memory cards, batteries, sunglasses, autograph book and pen. We would be carrying a bag anyhow (wife does not carry a purse) and this gives us a safe place to put the camera during rides (if we are not taking pictures) and washroom breaks(I will not take pictures).
