Hi Everyone,
We're back home from our epic England and France holiday - I'm so thankful for all the advice and planning I did before we went to DLP via Disboards - thank you everyone!
Firstly the lows (not many)
The weather did put a dampener (excuse the pun) on our time in the parks, we didn't have too much rain, but gave up on our Sunday afternoon in the Studios after getting soaked! Everyone was a bit too cold, wet and tired to carry on.
The Princess for a day makeover not being available whilst we were there. I wasn't going to go ahead with this but as DD (6) had a spectacular and hilarious meltdown over a wishing well in England not granting her wish to become a princess I thought I better!
We managed to salvage the situation by getting face painting in the park, buying a fluffy cape and having lunch at Auberge. (more in TR when I get to it!)
A couple of Hotel New York issues:
There was a conference on when we were there, so on Monday morning we were put in the New York bar for breakfast - we couldn't sit at the table properly as it was a low bar table and the food was cold and stale - we actually walked out. The other mornings we were in Parkside and were very happy.
Housekeeping managed to take DS's expensive merino sleeping bag (the toddler ones you zip them into) and DD's special new Peppa Pig toy when they changed one of the beds one morning. We spoke to concierge who advised IF they get the items back it would take 2-3 days so they'd post them out to us. We managed to sneakily purchase a replacement Peppa as soon as we got home but don't think we'll ever see the sleeping bag again. Thank god it wasn't one of their irreplaceable-had-since-birth toys that went.
Highs!!
Watching the parade on our first day - we snagged a great spot between discovery land and the castle (near the wheelchair area by the stage area) we had a very amusing cast member manning the ropes near us while we were waiting and all my photos have the castle in the background. There were happy tears during the parade!
Autopia - DD drove both times we went on (once with me, once with DH) she was squealing with excitement both times - so funny!
DD's knack of running into characters - we met a few unexpectedly and had wonderful interactions.
A British cast member called Dan at the toon studios meet and greet - after queueing in the rain to meet Woody and have him sign our encyclopaedia of animated characters book, Dan told us that Buzz was out the back having just finished a mission and would we like him to take our book out to be signed by him. He ended up getting a dozen or so characters to sign and the kids were stoked. His little bit of effort really made our afternoon
Being able to buy unique costumes!
We brought home a Jasmine for DD and Woody for DS - they love them and there's nothing like them available here!
Meeting princesses at Auberge du Cendrillion - we met Cinderella, who was stunningly beautiful, Aurora, Snow White and the Prince, and Suzy and Perla the mice.
Dreams on our final evening - it really is amazing and we loved that DD made friends with a wee italian girl while they were waiting. Even though they didn't speak the same language they bonded over Disney - what it's all about really
