Today is the first day of school. My baby girl is a high school freshman. This is the first time either of my kids has had to ride a bus. My only concern about the bus is that it picks her up at 6:30, so it's still dark. I don't like the idea of her standing on a dark corner with one other girl so I guess I'll be getting up early every day. I thought I was ok with her starting high school but I teared up when she hopped on that bus. I didn't see a teenager, I saw my baby girl. My ds starts his college classes today but I'm ok with that, at least I am right now. This parenting thing can be really hard.

I hope everyone has a great first day of school.

This parenting thing is REALLY hard as they get older. My oldest started her second year of teaching today. My younger daughter starts her second year of college today, my son goes to his last year of middle school next week. I can't say it's any easier than the day I chased the bus to their first days of kindergarten, probably harder... but, as my mom always said, " This, too, shall pass." Good luck with all your firsts and congrats to both your kids on their 'firsts".

Yesterday was dd's first day of 1st grade in a new school, where we don't know anyone. It went very well, thank goodness. Mom was a bit worried, but tried not to show it. :guilty:

This morning I saw a mother at a bus stop with her teenage daughter and the mother was slowly brushing the girl's hair - it was so sweet. They looked like they were having the best conversation. :goodvibes
To the OP -

Op, I can really relate...my DS just started HS yesterday! I have to drive him 3 miles to his bus stop (his school is 23 mis. away) and I sniffled the whole way there (as he rolled his eyes) :)
It's our tradition to read the book The Kissing Hand the night before school (I have younger ones as well) and was surprised when my DS sat down next to us while I read the book. I cried the whole way thorough the book as I remember DS' very first day of Kindergarten!
It sure does go by fast!

:hug:to all the other parents sending their kids off to school, no matter what age...

yesterday was DD's first day of first grade...it went very well. She was exahusted though and after swimming practice fell asleep on the way home.

Well my dd survived her first day of high school. She made a new friend which is really important for her. Most of the time she marches to the beat of a different drummer so to find a friend with similar interests is wonderful. I'm so glad she had a great first day and is excited about high school.
