Well, yesterday was my firstday in my new school as a full fledged permanent teacher. It took 22 months to find a permanent teaching position. Before this offer I went on 17 teaching related interviews and sent out over 200 resumes in my state.

The school is only 12 minutes away from my house (including rush hour traffic). The school has a full parking lot, so no hassles with off street parking.

Yes, it is an urban school. I do enjoy the school. It's one of those old school that were built in the early 1900's, so lots of steps and old boiler system.

I am assigned as a 6th grade teacher for Language Arts/Social Studies. I teach 4 classes per day, 90 minutes block. I will begin this next week (today is Jersey week!)

Yesterday I shadowed a resource teachers schedule just to familirize myself with the school. Class sizes are smaller than other public schools.

6th grade is a good level-the kids aren't quite as snotty as 7th and 8th graders yet, they still "like" school, and you don't have to walk them through EVERY step of the process-"open your desk, take out your pencil case, take out a pencil, put the pencil case back into your desk, close your desk..." You can just say "get a pencil out of your desk" :lmao:.

Good luck.:thumbsup2

I agreee. I was hoping for 5th-6th. I looked online to the school report card and the 6th grade class was the largest. So I was thrilled to find out 6th grade.

As for supplies, well.. I can't wait to get my own room so I can really assess the supply situation.

Congratulations! I know how hard it is to land a teaching position~
Best wishes to you and update us to let us know how it's going! :teacher:
