First Date With Spouse

Although I've known DH since I was 3 years old, our first "date" was when I was a sophomore in HS, he was a senior. He needed a date for a football game, I knew dating a senior would do wonders for my "street cred," (I was kind of a nerd), so we kind of "used" each other like this all school year. We became an official couple when I was a junior and he was a freshman in college, and we've been together ever since. We'll celebrate our 51st wedding anniversary next Sunday.

Queen Colleen

Unofficially, we went out with a group of friends to a movie on campus (the Robin Hood movie with Kevin Costner) and then out for Chinese food. First date just two of us was about a week or so later - went to another movie. I forget what movie, though.

Do you remember your first date with your current Significant Other, even if it was decades ago?

I met DW in college way back in late 1979 during exam week. She was a freshman and I was a "pre-junior" (3rd year of 5 year program). When the next semester started in 1980 we started hanging out, and after about a month we went to see the movie "10" (Bo Derek) followed by a late night snack at a 24 hour diner.

We dated the rest of the semester, but then she transferred to a different college. We tried to keep in touch, but then drifted apart. Eventually we both ended up marrying other people.

In 1999, after we were both divorced, she found me on AOL and we started dating again. Moved in together after about a year, and eventually got married in 2011.

We went to Denny's after work (yes, we worked together....he was my boss at the time) for coffee, but it really wasn't a date, more of a "hey let's go hang out everyone" and it ended up being just us at 3am, talking. A few days later, we went to the movies, and ended up seeing Under Siege; and then went to the comic book store at the mall by the theater, and Furr's for dinner.

Yes, I still have the ticket stub for the movie.

We first connected at the big annual MINI Cooper event down near the Smoky Mountains. I live in MI and she lived in TN. The first day I got back to my job I was let go. So I posted in our Michigan MINI forum that I was looking for a computer and printer to buy or borrow so I could print resumes. She volunteered to give me on so the next weekend we met halfway just south of Cincinnati. We had dinner at a nice Mexican place. On her way home her car hydroplaned and she rolled off the highway into a water flooded ditch. That launched a series of events that led to her moving herself and her business up to Michigan 2 months later and now I work for her.

Of course, we all work for our Wives. Am I right guys?

Met March 31st, 1994 in a bar (her friend knew my friend). Bet her a steak dinner she couldn't name the song being played - Hair Of The Dog by Nazereth. She got help from a friend, so I took her out the next night.

Went to a place called Michael's that no longer exists and I mentioned if she didn't order steak, I would technically still owe her. She had lasagna.

From there, drove an hour to STL, drinks at Friday's, then The Funny Bone - she was impressed that I had reservations. 2nd comic was Buzz Sutherland; he was awesome & we've seen him several times since. Headliner was Tim Wilson. He absolutely bombed.

Talked & made out all night, dropped her off about sunup. Engaged May 29th same year, married the following April 1st.

We went to take our SAT's and have coffee. The first Starbucks in our area had opened a few months before and i thought i was so cool. In 2 weeks that will be 20 years ago. He has no idea what's on the Starbucks menu, I'm a gold card holder.

We met on Match.com. We had both been married once and were just starting to date again after our divorces. We texted for a few weeks and then decided to meet. We met at a local sports bar to have lunch and watch football. Lunch turned into dinner. As the hours went on we started noticing lots of "colorful" characters coming in and out. Turns out Judas Priest was playing at the event center next door. This was only 5 1/2 years ago so the crowd was definitely trending older like us :). He suggested we go see if we could get tickets. I thought it was because he loved Judas Priest so was a little concerned about his taste in music but luckily it turns out that he just wanted to spend more time with me . We dated exclusively after that night and were married a year and a half later!

I remember the day of the week, date of the year, and what we did. We were Freshman in college had first met in a history class in September. By February we were constantly hanging out together, and our first date was April 19, 1995. The day of the Oklahoma City bombing. We saw a movie (I forget which movie, actually) at a local theatre which has since closed, and had dinner at a local bistro which has since closed (the co-owner and chef died of brain cancer).

We will be married 21 years this October.

I'll never forget it . . .

DH and I were sophomores in college. We saw Star Wars: Episode One at Lenox Mall in Atlanta and then had pizza at Fellini's on Peachtree. We celebrate the 18th anniversary of that date this weekend

Today is our 25th wedding anniversary and we have been together in total for 30 years. Our first date was movie and dinner. I was 15 and he was 18. I knew I was going to marry him and here we are!

I met my hubby back in 1989. His sister was my classmate and we all went to the same high school. We were friendly, but not friends. He then transferred to my college in 1994. I used to help tutor/edit papers for English Comp 101 students, and he hired me to help him improve his grade. To thank me, he took me to the Olive Garden (which we both now hate) for dinner, but it was really his way of asking me out. We immediately started dating, but then broke up in 1997 because I wanted to move to the West Coast and be on my own. I moved back to NJ, and we got together in 2000 and have been together ever since. Married at WDW in 2003!

Our first date was going to see Forrest Gump at the movie theater together.

DW and I met as counselors at a summer camp. We were friends at first and then started liking each other. We got 1 night off/week, so for our 1st date we went to a Chinese restaurant and then saw St. Elmo's Fire. Very, very 80s. :D

I remember the first time we met but alas no I don't remember the first date perse. I don't really think we said to ourselves "this is our first date" so maybe that's why the exact memory isn't there.

Whew...glad I'm not the only one. While I do recall our first date, details...not so much. I know the date because we got married exactly two years after the first date, so our wedding anniversary and first date anniversary are the same day. Makes it easy for me to remember. Now approaching 20 years together and 18 years married.

We met through personal ad that I put in a local paper, sort of as a joke (long story, but sure glad I put the ad in). We went to dinner and a movie, but I couldn't tell you where we went to dinner specifically or what the movie was. Went to her apartment after...and yes, I went home that night. But I really don't remember a ton of details about the date. I knew very quickly that she would be my wife, we were living together within a month of our first date. However, my memory is horrible, so I only remember "snapshots" of our first date, not details. Sadly, our wedding is the same thing...I remember a bit here and a bit there, but not a ton of details.

Lol well I remember the first time my husband and I met pretty clear (despite alcohol being involved ) but that wasn't really our first date. For us it's that I don't think we ever really called out a specific day/night as our "first date" so that's why I said I don't have that memory.

Aside from the first night we met the early time of him and I being together we remember bits and pieces but maybe it's because we spent sooo much time with eachother after we met it's a blur now. We were also in college too when we met so we had studies and jobs and whatnot going on at the same time.

We met, became officially boyfriend/girlfriend 7 months later-when we first met neither one of us was looking for an actual relationship both having just gotten out of ones a few months before meeting (though I always had our anniversary the night we met since we had spent nearly every day together since then), got engaged 4 years and 7 months after we first met, got married 9 months after we got engaged. This upcoming December it will be 10 years that we've been together with 4 1/2 of that being married at that time.

I think that's pretty darn interesting you guys met through a personal ad in the paper :-)

So many of us met our spouses while we were so young! I don't know as many people IRL who are that way.

Dh was a senior in high school, and I was on semester break from my first year of college. I had wrecked my car the night before, and a friend drove me to where my car had been towed to get all of my stuff out of the car. In exchange I had to go to a lame Christmas party with high school boys with her. :rotfl:

He drove me home that night (and she went with the boy she was interested in going to see that night) although he wasn't particularly interested as much as I was and didn't seem to think there would be anything after that night. Because my best friend was now dating his best friend, I was able to casually see him a few more times over the next week. A few days later, on Christmas Eve, we went Christmas shopping just the 2 of us, and went out to lunch at Friendly's. This is what we consider our first real date.

That was 1995. Our friends broke up not to long after Valentine's Day, 1996. We got married July 1996.

Yes, July 2, 1999. My wife and I were introduced by a married couple that were our mutual friends. We went out to Pizza Hut with them, played miniature golf and then went to see Star Wars Episode 1.

We had our first alone date to Ruby Tuesdays a week later, and then spent the evening talking.

We were married a year later and will celebrate our 17th anniversary this July.

Very well.

His car was spotless except for one grey hair on the passenger seat. I picked it up and remarked on it (can't remember what I said) and my (now) husband said, "that belonged to my last date. I met her at church, she was a real pistol."

He took me to a local pub for pre-dinner drinks, then we went to a local upscale restaurant - very nice. I don't remember what I ate, but he ordered wine with the dinner. After dinner we went to a coffee house for dessert coffee. He must have spent a fortune.

BTW: I was 24, he was 25, we married 6 months after that first date (we met 4 months before that) and will celebrate our 25th anniversary this November.
