I booked a Cat V room on a 3 night cruise on the Dream as a little getaway for my wife and I without the children. Now we are starting to feel a little guilty and may end up adding the children to the stateroom and asking our oldest daughter, SIL, and grandson if they would like to go. So we would add my 2 younger daughters to our Cat V and probably get a Cat 5 for the others.

My first question is can my Wife and I board the ship at a different time than my daughters in the same Stateroom? They will probably fly in on the day of the cruise due to scheduling. I know that's not idea to fly on the same day but it may be the only way they can do it.

Second question in regards to Concierge benefits, should I add my grandson to our reservation in order to take advantage of any character meet perks, if any, for him.

And Lastly, for now, a multi part question about cabanas on Castaway Cay. If we decided to do a Family cabana, is it correct to assume my 2 year old grandson will be counted towards the occupancy? So we would have 7 total and that would be an additional $50? If we decided not to get a cabana is it unethical to offer to get it for a fellow Diser who may be on the same cruise, since that is one of the perks of Concierge rooms

Thanks in advance for any help.

1, yes you can check in at different times.

2&3 - there are probably going to be some strong opinions on these two questions, as far as I know, and I've never done concierge, concierge perks are for concierge guests only, not for those that happen to be on the ship with them that aren't sailing concierge.

Thank you for the response and clearing up my first question.

As far as the concierge benefits go, I understand and agree that concierge perks are for concierge guests only. Just wondering if there might be perks such as priority character meets that would be worth adding my Grandson to our reservation rather than my Daughters.

In the past, separate check ins were allowed for the same stateroom. There have been recent reports that the whole party must check in together. I suspect your mileage may vary here.

It's up to you whether you want to add your grandson to your reservation. I will just point out that, whatever room he is booked in, that's the muster location he must attend for the drill. And, if you do put him in your room, you'll need to sign the form to authorize others (in the other room) to be able to take him off the ship, if you are not with him. Yes, even if it's his mom, if she's in the "other" room, she'll need your permission to take him off the ship without you.

Yes a 2 year old counts as a person. As he will onboard the ship. You will be paying that extra $50 for a 7th person. I would think it's unethical for you to book a Cabana for some other party than your own.

I think it actually may be against the conditions of use of the cabana to book it and not use it yourself. I would think carefully about doing that. Imagine for one horrible moment one of them had an accident and they were not permitted to be there their insurance may be invalid. I personally would not do this but that is just my view of course!

Very good point that I had not thought of. My thought was just being able to help a fellow DISer out if we didn't want to take advantage of the benefit. Still researching and trying to learn the ins and outs of a cruise. Thanks for the responses.

We would disembark together but it sounds as though it would just be easier to book them a CAT V room as well. I appreciate your opinion on the Cabana question as well. We will more than likely request one for ourselves anyways.

Lovely thought though! Have a lovely cruise and it is cute you have now added your kids!

I know I'm going to get blasted for this. If you don't add the grandson talk to
concierge staff on-board. Don't count on the access but pixie dust might come your way. I been to these character meetings which are staled for 1 hour but I have never seen more than 10 couples that attended, my average was only 6 families that in attendance. So the character usually has plenty of time.

agree with this ^^^^^

You are usually talking about 1 character meet for concierge guests and in the past it was on the concierge sun deck late afternoon. We have seen Goofy, Stitch, Pluto in these situations.

Yup on my last cruise it was Minnie. In my 5 cruises, I never seen Mickey come to the "1 character meet for concierge guests"
