So much for "first available room assignments." We checked in at SSR
at about 2:00 P.M. on Dec. 8. I had mentally rehearsed a speech that
I would use to get the room that I requested. The dialogue with the CM
went something like this:

[Me]: I am aware of your room assignment policy. However, I am willing
to wait, if necessary, to get the requests that I made, i.e. Congress Park,
view of DTD, near an elevator for those family members with disabilities.

[CM]: Oh, no problem, we have just the room you want. We will assign it
to you, but it is not now available. You will need to check back with us
to get the room number when it is available.

Suffice it to say, I was completely disarmed by the very favorable treatment.
I gather that the "first available" policy is ignored at some reception areas.

BTW: I found the concierge desk at SSR to be a great addition. It made
the entire check-in very pleasant.

Room assignment really isn't "first avalaible", what it is is that they will do their best to get you a clean room upon arrival if they have one. If they do not have a clean room when you arrive they will assign you a room that will be avaliable later that day and advise you to check back. In your case even if they had clean rooms you told them you were willing to wait to get exactlly what you wanted so they assigned you to it. It is not that they were ignoring the policy, you offered to wait and what you wanted would be avaliable later so they accomodated that.

I'm glad that it worked out well for you and you were able to get exactlly what you were looking for :)
