First a Little Pomp & Circumstance, then a Whole Lot of Disney Dining! COMPLETE

Creative use of pics to complete this review! I know you posted it earlier in the report, but the view of Luna Park from your room is awesome. I have no issue with the clown face (and the Keister Coaster slide is one of the most fun at a resort!). A (virgin) piña colava sounds great right now. :thumbsup2

Can't wait to see what happened for dinner! :goodvibes

Well, now you have seen what didn't happen for dinner. :worried: But Part II will have to wait until tomorrow because it's way past my bedtime. :faint:

I'm so excited to see what happened! Hopefully it was very enjoyable, even if it wasn't Flying Fish. :goodvibes Have a good sleep (especially after a double dose of updates)! I'm also ready to call it a night. :)

I read your pre-edited post earlier, but didn't have a chance to respond until now. I had remembered reading some B & C reviews where people were able to have sundaes (like the No Way Jose) made with a non-dairy alternative. Here is an article I found about this:

http://glutenfreedairyfreewdw.blogspot.com/2011/07/beaches-and-cream-table-service-beach.html

Oh, and no worries concerning what you originally said. If that sort of thing grossed me out I would have never married my DH. :lmao: Oops, perhaps that was TMI! ;)

(Just kidding, honey...if you happen to be reading this )

I'm happy to see that I could have a sundae with Rice Dream or Tofutti!! And all of WDW will thank me! :rotfl2: I thought I'd better censor myself just in case people didn't want to know that about me (in a dining review no less!). So I'm glad you're the only one that saw that ;) But thanks again for that link because my DD is such an ice cream freak and now I can enjoy myself as well!

I have posted Part II of our Boardwalk dinner review on Page 24, post 358. :thumbsup2

Well, it's not the Flying Fish but it looks like you had a great time with your daughters and that's what matters right? I'm on a pre-WDW diet right now and I have to say that I would love to stuff my face with the ravioli and pizza right now. I think you can expect that my upcoming dining review will be overly positive after coming off of this diet because everything will be the best ever! :rotfl2:

I didn't watch much of Idol this year but I did see Phillip Phillips several times and I really enjoyed his performances. Congrats to Phillip squared! :cheer2:

I loive the idea of your chillaxing junk food dinner but I just don't know that we would ever do it in WDW. There would have to be something really drawing us to the TV. Maybe Phillip would have done it! I am a fan ... love "Home". Bought it was soon as it was available on iTunes.

Totally planning on getting a BW Bakery cupcake!

As surprising at it sounds, that pizza looks great to me right now. I haven't had pizza in months, and now I'm really in the mood. :rotfl:

Just got back from a work trip to Dublin where unfortunately no Margaritas were consumed !!

I'm so happy that my photo got used in your review, it's kind of like having a drink with you :)

Oh and I love the conversation with the pizza guy ..... Hilarious!!!

Well, it's not the Flying Fish but it looks like you had a great time with your daughters and that's what matters right?

Definitely! :thumbsup2 We ended up having a very enjoyable evening...well, after the girls got past the little spat they had. That was their one and only fight of the trip (something I attribute to the "Disney Magic" ;)), and would you believe that it involved the t.v. remote??? I really thought those kind of fights were limited to the men of our family. :lmao:

popcorn:: joining in popcorn::

Beautiful pics and great reviews! Subscribing!

btw, do you use a dslr for your pics?

:welcome: MiaBella05 and sushi candy and thanks for joining in! :thumbsup2

And in answer to your camera question, the pictures taken by my DD2 were taken with her new Cannon Rebel t2i DSLR camera. But a lot of the pictures were taken with my IPhone 4S, which surprisingly takes pretty good pictures. Probably better than my old point and shoot.

Hmmm...I wonder how well one of those cupcakes would survive being sent in the mail? :scratchin I'm guessing though that with the record temperatures we have been having this summer, it would not be a pretty sight once it got to me here in Illinois. :lmao:

You obviously don't live at my house! :rotfl2:

Oh and I love the conversation with the pizza guy ..... Hilarious!!!

I'm glad someone understands my humor...'cause that pizza guy sure didn't! :lmao:

I'm so going to ask the BW pizza due for a sausage, pineapple, and jalepeno pizza!!! :lmao: I'll tell you what he says - or more likely how he stares blankly at me!!!

I WANT THOSE CUPCAKES - everyone of them!!! They all look/sound so good. I'm glad you made an endorsement for the BW bakery versions since that narrows it down for me and I don't have to stress too much over which ones??? Ha.. who am I kidding, I'll probably get both Starring Rolls and BW Bakery - just so I can compare you know! :upsidedow

I love the junk food dinner - definitely my speed for a relaxing evening.

The pizza is on me if you can make that guy crack a smile! :lmao:

And regarding the cupcakes, I would be very disappointed if you didn't try both.

BACKGROUND: Kona Cafe is another restaurant that my family has been to many times, as the Polynesian was once our favorite Disney resort (and still holds a special place in our hearts). We have had all three meals there, but haven't had lunch in several years and our last dinner in March 2010 was just so-so. Consequently I would have to say that breakfast is currently my favorite meal at Kona Cafe. However, sit-down breakfasts at Disney World are a rare occurance for my family these days. DH doesn't like to get up early when on vacation and the kids just don't like to get up early...EVER! So knowing that I have to choose my battles wisely, I usually plan one, but no more than two, sit-down breakfasts per trip. On this trip, I had planned three (if you count Wolfgang Puck Express). So did I choose well, when I decided to have...

BREAKFAST AT KONA CAFE

Following our stay-in evening, DD2 decided to stay up most of the night reading (the girl loves to read, and would definitely give Belle a run for her money ;)). Consequently, she was in no mood for her mother's early morning wake-up call, or I should say...wake-up song. You see, I have an "annoying habit" (as my kids would say) of singing the "Good Morning" song which was performed by Debbie Reynolds, Gene Kelly & Donald O'Connor in the 1952 movie, "Singing in the Rain".

singin-in-the-rain.jpg

Now most of you were probably not even born in 1952 (actually I was not even born yet ;)), but I'm hoping maybe some of you are still familiar with it. Wait, actually I just remembered that a scene from this movie is depicted in the Great Movie Ride, so maybe more of you are familiar with this film than I had thought. :thumbsup2

Anyway this is a part of the lyrics...

Good Mornin', Good Mornin'

It's great to stay Up late

Good Mornin', good mornin' to you!
:cool1:

My daughter's reaction to my singing this "wake-up" song plus opening the curtains of the living room (where she was sleeping on the pull-out sofa) was reminiscent of another classic movie (this one a little more recently made, in 1973). So has anyone here seen "The Exorcist"??? :rotfl2:

I'm just kidding...actually, her head didn't do a complete 360 degree spin. ;)

So as you may have guessed, DD2 DID NOT join us for breakfast at Kona Cafe. Now DD1 (who's breakfast normally consists of a strong cup of coffee ) agreed to go, but only on one condition...that we would not also have lunch that day. So with the choice of eating at Kona by myself or having a dining companion but skipping lunch, I was forced to nix my plan to have lunch at Columbia Harbour House that day. With this in mind, I decided to move back our reservation to later in the morning, making it more like "brunch".

And so we began our breakfast at Kona Cafe, by ordering these beverages...

clippetersitting-1.jpg
100% Kona Coffee French Press Pot - $7.49

-and-
wendy-1.jpg
Mimosa - sparkling wine and orange juice - $8.25

Now I normally don't partake of alcoholic beverages this early in the day, but I had three good excuses to do so.

1) We were spending the rest of the day at Magic Kingdom (aka the "Dry" Kingdom).

2) I was also drinking some pretty strong Kona coffee at the same time, which I'm sure countered any effect that the alcohol might have had, right???

3) I was skipping lunch so I needed the extra sustenance. :p

Okay, now on to the food.

So you would think that DD1 would have ordered one of the items which is unique to Kona Cafe, like Tonga Toast, Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes, or the Samoan. You know, something that you don't often see on a restaurant's breakfast menu. So what did she order???

wendy-1.jpg
Ham and Cheese Omelet, served with home-fried potatoes and a biscuit - $10.99

Ah yes, that very original breakfast entree, the ham and cheese omelet. :lmao: She only gave her breakfast a rating of "Good", but I think her judgement may have been slightly clouded by the fact that she was somewhat "peeved" with me. You see my friends, my daughter actually wanted me to share an entree with her. But since she does not like pancakes, I quickly denied her request. Because when I go to Kona Cafe for breakfast, there is no way in hades that I'm going to order anything other than this...

th7-1-1-1.jpg
Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes - with macadamia nut butter, pineapple sauce and your choice of ham, bacon or sausage - $9.99.

I am convinced that if food is eaten in heaven, then these will surely be served for breakfast there. Enough said.

Oh, wait a minute, one more thing. Do not make the mistake that I did back in May 2011 when I got the Big Kahuna platter, expecting that the pancakes included were the real deal. While they were very good, I left wondering what the big deal was here on the boards about "Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes". :scratchin Well, shortly after that trip, MickeyNicki also paid a visit to Kona and in her review explained the difference between the two. The ones included on the platter are just regular pancakes topped with macadamia nut butter and pineapple. When you get the full order of Macadamia Pineapple Pancakes there are macadamia nuts in the pancakes. So if you like macadamia nuts, this pushes the rating of these pancakes from a Very Good "Peter Pan" up to a Magical "Tinkerbell".

So once again, I have MickeyNicki to thank for enlightening me. :thanks:

Since we had a late ADR, we were one of the last to leave the restaurant before they began seating for lunch. I took this opportunity to snap a photo of a nearly empty Kona Cafe restaurant.

Oh, and since I had forgotten to take a picture of the menu, I quickly took a picture of the menu posted outside of the restaurant as we were leaving.

ff8ba54e.jpg

As you can see, I took a picture of the wrong menu. I guess drinking the Kona coffee didn't counter the effects of that mimosa afterall. :rotfl:

And so our overall rating of the meal was:
clippetersitting-1.jpg
Very Good

NEXT UP: Not Lunch at Columbia Harbour House (or anywhere else, for that matter)

I know the "Good Morning" song! Of course, it's only because of Disney that I'm familiar with it - the song is included in Magic Kingdom's opening show that takes place every morning. :rotfl:

DD1's omelette looks ordinary (in fact, I don't think I'd like all that cheese on it), but at least it's served with a pineapple wedge. :goodvibes

And of course, the macadamia-pineapple pancakes are delicious. Those macadamia nuts add a satisfying crunch and slight savory note - a unique but tasty touch. I haven't had those pancakes for over a year, but I miss them now. :thumbsup2

My mom (who lives near Disney) loves Kona and those pancakes. She will always pick Kona for her birthday outing and only go for breakfast. She tells me that everytime we went down to disney when I was growing up (we are originally from Pennsylvania and they moved south), we ALWAYS went to Kona. She raves about the pancakes. Good to know she is in good company. :thumbsup2

Well what a wonderful way to start my day

Oh my gosh!!! I had completely forgotten that they sang that song during the park opening show at MK. I've only seen the show once and that was a year or two ago. Now I remember that I couldn't help but "snicker" just a bit when I heard it. ;) Thanks so much for reminding me, Donald! :thumbsup2

First of all, I am quite jealous of your mom! :thumbsup2 But if I were her, I would probably be celebrating my birthday at least once a month by having pancakes at Kona. :lmao:

Oh, I wish I was starting my day by eating breakfast in London! :woohoo: But then again, perhaps that might be better to do a couple of months from now...once the Olympics crowds have cleared out. :thumbsup2

Those pancakes look amazing! how did you find the portions? was it easy to finish on your own?

The portion is quite large and I think could easily be shared by two people with normal appetites. Although there is just two large pancakes, they are very filling. I think maybe because they are loaded with macadamia nuts. :thumbsup2 Knowing I wasn't going to get to have lunch that day, I really pushed myself to keep eating them even after I felt full. Even so, I was not able to finish them. ;)
