Fireworks view from top of Contemporary

Several years ago we viewed the MK fireworks from the observation deck on top of the Contemporary Resort. I remembered we walked through the California Grill to get to the deck, however, I also vaguely remember reading somewhere that the resort and the restaurant have put an end to allowing just anyone to get to the observation deck.

Can anyone confirm this and/or tell me if you can still view from the observation deck. Also, what other good viewing areas outside of the park are available.

Thanks. :)

Yes, I have also read that now only guests of the restaurant can use that observatory for fireworks viewing.

The Contemporary also has an observatory at the 4th floor near the shops.

Anyone else know the answer to this? Do they literally ask you for your reservation before allowing you access?

If you don't have ressies, you will be just fine from the 4th floor observation deck. We watched Wishes from the Contemporary tower both nights this past weekend.

One odd thing -- the fireworks are to the right of the castle when you watch from the CR, not over it as they appear in the park.
