Why on earth would someone think it is OK to aim them at passing cars? Not to mention the vacant lot full of dry, overgrown grass that is across the street (and across from MY home!)?

It is legal to sell/buy fireworks here, but not to use them. The fact that it is illegal to use them is rarely enforced. It was teenagers setting them off. Sorry, if you are going to buy fireworks for your teens, at least have them aim them at your own yard!

(And yes, I called the police.)

I have always said that determining how much to supervise a teenager should have a specific formula: child's age-10 years. The difference will equal a younger age and the teenager should be supervised as MOST people supervise that age!

So, 13 year olds should be watched like 3s: If they're quiet, they're up to something!

14 year olds like 4s: When they're not in school, supervised even in their own back yards.

15 year olds like 5s: They can now play in the back, while mom glances out from time to time, same in their room with the door open!

16 year olds like 6s: They can go on a playdate if you're sure their parent will supervise like you will!

17 year olds like 7s: They can play with their wheeled toys using safety precautions only on their own street.

18 year olds, like 8s, can finally go play on the next block as long as they check in from time to time.

OP: I know it wasn't at all funny, but just think what a wonderful world it would be!

Call the police and keep calling the police. Ugh! I hate this time of year just for that reason. We had a frat house, well just a bunch of college guys renting the house, on my cul de sac. And more than a few times I called the police on them for fireworks. I dont mind them on the 4th. Thats expected. But not the last week in June all the way through July. And especailly not on a sunday night at 11:45 pm, on the lawn that they never water, facing the cars on the street. It just makes me mad.

Most kids/teens around here don't even know we used to stand in the street lighting things on fire. Fireworks have been illegal for that long here.

I hate fireworks season. Its illegal in our state too, yet every year, all of neighbors love to do fireworks. Luckily, there are houses around us now...when the subdivision was new, the people behind us decided to go in the empty lot next to us as to not shoot them to their own house, instead having them land in ours. Oh, and the people down the block had to take their dog into the vet one night cuz he ran out in the street when it was going off (dog was ok). And they kept it up the rest of the season.

I definitely hear you! I hate these two weeks of the year. Illegal in MA but no one enforces that. The other night there was a 9 & a 5 year old shooting off fireworks in the street a few houses down while their parents sat on the front porch. My neighbor wanted to call DSS. I just don't know what people are thinking!

Aidensmom: Ugghhh! How annoying! I also hate it this time of year for that exact reason. It's like 2 AM and you're trying to sleep, and all you hear is BANG! BANG! BANG! And to aim them at passing cars?!? REDICULOUS. :sad2:

First off, good for you calling the police!!

Second, this is such a timely post. We went to a party today and in the kids goodie bags were firecracker type things. Ummm, yeah, my youngest is 4 thanks.

Well, I heard a couple firecrackers last night at about midnight, then nothing else. Hopefully that means they are doing some patrolling around here.

If someone is going to use fireworks and be responsible with them, well, I am not going to worry about it. But when people just ignore the dangers of them, that is what irritates me.

And giving them to small children in a goody bag! Disneymom3, what were those people thinking?!

We're lucky, this neighborhood is good. But geez, everywhere you turn, there's yet another tent selling fireworks around here! Guess I was spoiled living in two states where they couldn't be sold.

We went for BBQ the other day and in the shopping center lot (average sized) there was not one, but TWO fireworks tents.
