We have reservations at Kona Cafe on July 4th. We're planning on watching the MK fireworks from the Poly Beach. How crowded does it get? How early should we plan on getting out there? Do they restrict access to resort guests? We're staying at OKW will that be a problem?

I believe they do restrict beach access to Polynesian guests on the 4th of July. At least I kind of remember that being the case a few years ago. They may check resort ID's.

Anyone know the deal?

Anyone can go to the Polynesian beach, however someone posted that on a day like July 4th they try to restrict beach access to just guests of the Polynesian. I am not sure if that's true or not so I am just writting down what I remember reading. Assuming you can get onto the beach the only thing that should be reserved for the Polynesian guests are the hammocks.

We were staying offsite but had dinner at Ohana on July 4 (we decided to stay out of the parks that day). After dinner we strolled to the beach and sat to watch both the fireworks and the Electric Water Pageant. It was crowded but not uncomfortably so. I would suggest bringing something to sit on to enjoy the show. We had parked in the Poly lot, and were given a three hour pass, but were well under that for time. No one will kick you out for not being a hotel guest. I wouldn't try to take a dip in the Volcano pool though...
Have a great time dining at Kona and watching the fireworks, it is a special time to be there. I think the Electric Water Pageant is even patriotic themed this week.
Enjoy!

No its not restricted - alot of people will tell you that but we have been (more on NYE though) and its a great atmosphere. We have had security guards and managers walk past us and greet us and never say anything beyond, "Having a good time?" I have never seen an ID asked for.

I find that it doesn't get crowded until later in the evening - about twenty minutes before the actual fireworks although we were there much earlier. And even once the fireworks started there was plenty of room on the beach and grassy areas.

Have fun!

We almost always make the trek over to the Poly, have dinner and then go out on the beach to watch the fireworks and then the EWP parade. It is a tradition.

We are often the only folks doing so and thus I never feel as I am taking anything away from the Poly guests.

On the 4th of July I think I would feel differently though. The beach is large and there are many other spots you can see the fireworks from there also so maybe you could find a spot but I would not take a seat from a guest but that is just me.

Have a blast and remember that there are many resorts you can see the fireworks from other than Poly if that does not work out.

I believe you can ride the MK to resort boat and if you time it just right you can see the fireworks from there also.

Many choices and I hope one works out for you and yours.
