Tristin Smith our local son who was killed in Iraq on Aug 27, 2006 arrived at Dover AFB in Delaware yesterday morning. Tristin was a local fireman

Yesterday morning 3 local fire company's drove to Dover to escort his body back home to Bryn Athyn. Every overpass from Dover to when they exited the PA turnpike had firecompany's displaying the flag and standing at attention

A huge thank you to all his brothers who helped him return home.

We were at a wedding last night and the minister is also the pastor for a number of fire companies.

We talked bout the procession.

It included both military and fire honor guards.

There is a local gentleman who is a retired 2 star USMC General. He had flown Ike's presidential helicopter at one point. At some point he retired and took up teaching and coaching. He was one of my coaches in high school. Without a doubt one of the finest most honorable men I have ever met. He marched as part of the military honor guard and pallbearer.

The pastor thanked him and said it was a privilege to have the General there. The response was no thank you for calling me it was my privilege to honor a hero who fell in uniform.

The pastor, who had also been taught by the General, said he had been calling Tristan a hero and have the major general use the term confirmed that it was the right thing to say.

I can think of no higher praise than this Gen Nelson calling someone a hero.

The whole thing was just an amazing event...

My husband is a volunteer firefighter...and I have come to understand "the brotherhood" in the 11 years we have been together.
It is a very powerful bond with this group-one that was enhanced even further with September 11th. Most firefighters apply the "never forget" not only to the victims of this horrible day in history, but to every death within their ranks.

Ours prayers are with Tristan, his family, and his friends :grouphug:

We are always a band of brothers be in a battlefield of war or a battle of flames.
May our brother rest in peace.

What a wonderful tribute. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Firefighters are a special bunch.
I know that if we ever needed anything, big or small, all it would take is one phone call to one of DH's fellow firefighters and they would spread the word and we would have all the help we could need. They take care of their own. I'm proud that our family is a part of that.

Very well said! Yes it's so true.

May our brother rest in peace and watch over us from heaven!!

Wow that is amazing. My DH is a firefighter and in the Guard it really hits home to see that.

I wish you could see the size of the goose bumps I got while reading your post.

Zurg's wife - I live very close to you - and all of the Firefighters in my neighborhood were there to escort him home. God Bless him and may he rest in piece.

Fireman, policeman and soldiers...heroes and role models...may the young man rest in peace...those are truly amazing pictures and show the bond that men in uniform have.
