Fire Sale if Resort is Almost Sold

Yeah I feel like the attitude these days is like they don't need to do any steep cuts and people will still buy, especially a beautiful and popular resort like riviera, where people are still buying despite the undesirable resale restrictions. I was also impressed how it's holding up *right now* in the resale market so that restriction isn't scaring me, a prospective buyer, from buying. So I guess i just answered my own question that I shouldn't hold my breath 🤣🤣
I love when I write questions on here and I end up with my answer!

I wouldn’t count on a Riviera fire sale. It’s the only direct Epcot resort for sale in the foreseeable future (at least at a reasonable price and not expiring in 17 years).

VGF expansion, PVB expansion, CFW+LSL are all MK area. If anything, I could see a fire sale at PVB simply because they will have built so much in the MK area. I could see them wanting this sold before LSL. I’m probably in the minority on this. Just thinking there are probably 20-25 million MK resort points between, BRV/CCV, BLT, VGF, PVB, CFW, and LSL.

Thank you for this! Looks like I will be up in the early morning hours the day the 7-month booking window opens!
I haven't tried this around early December, but I bet a lot of people have booked at their home resort in the 11 month window, and are looking to modify to a different resort at the 7 month window. I don't know how critical it is to do that in the early morning hours right when that day opens. As one person modifies their reservation from X to Y, then that frees up a few nights at resort X for the next person to try and modify their reservation from Z to X, etc.

If what you want isn't available immediately when that day opens, keep checking back multiple times over the next several days and you might get lucky.

Great observations and I agree with this. Why have a fire sale when it's the only epcot resort that is almost sold out and the next ones not open until 2027.

VGF in late 2023 says "HELLLOOOO!"

If that wasn't a fire sale to close it out then... The pace they were on had me expecting it to take until spring '24 to sell out and then poof, it was gone in October '23 instead.

Edit to add: 150 pts with Magical Beginnings got down to $161/pt. Direct VGF. $161/pt. Bonkers. I should have bought more!
this is my Roman Empire and something that will haunt me the rest of my life. lol. joking but also not joking. we had a military discount as well so with all the incentives plus military plus magical beginnings for 150 pts we got it for $156/point. really thankful I had discovered these boards a few months before that as I was dipping my toe into the resale waters with our first DVC purchase ...knew from the brain hive here that this was a heck of a deal, to put it mildly, but my big regret is not buying more!! Truly bonkers @LittleBitGoofy!

If RIV is an Epcot resort is OKW?
Of course not. I don't know why anyone would argue that.

Is it nearby and have a transportation option to get to EPCOT other than the bus? Or a way to get to Crescent Lake without going through EPCOT? I don't think so.
It looks to be 2-3 times further away from the nearest point of EPCOT compared to RIV (depending on where at OKW you are at)

I would categorize it as Disney Springs Area

It is worth nothing that most of the "RIV is not an Epcot resort because you can't walk there" people never said the same thing about the Grand before the walkway to MK was completed.

But I'm cool with people not liking RIV for whatever reason. More availability for me!

So are we saying Pop and Art are now Epcot resorts due to the Skyliner. What about caribbean beach ?

RIv in my eyes isn't an Epoct resort. But it is a strategically positioned resort with good transportation options

RIV (and maybe Caribbean Beach) are the furthest I would stretch the Epcot/Crescent Lake resort definition. Anything else is too far away or more of a hassle to get to Epcot/Crescent lake area.

RIV/CBR - close-ish with 1 skyliner ride to EPCOT international gateway (though RIV is closer)

POP/AOA require 2 skyliner rides with a transfer to get anywhere.

This is similar to the monorail resorts which require a transfer at TTC to ride the monorail to EPCOT. But no one really calls those EPCOT resorts because they are further away and require a transfer

Edit: Thanks @Brian Noble
I didn't know Disney had official definitions on what was or wasn't a EP-area resort. Seems they follow my own logic

Interestingly, Disney does consider CBR an EP-area resort, but does not put POP/AoA in that category.

Instead, those are in the "Studios area", together with CBR and RIV which get to double-dip.

Y'all can call it whatever you want. It's your nickel.
I guess it just depends on how you want to define it. One way is you have a reasonable walk to the part, so BLT for MK and BCV and BWV for Epcot. Next is one hop non bus access which would more or less how Disney does it to include CBR and Riv and GFV at MK.....of course most people include Poly which is two hops to MK. And the boating options too, lets not forget them. But but only resorts are nope not included as far as direct access to any park.
