Fire on Epcot Property

How can you tell that is from July 2002?? The first post reads as posting TODAY and it says the poster joined in March of 2006. Where can I find the July 2002 date?

Post #7 was edited - perhaps it had the link, the poster figured out it was dated 2002, and removed it?

We left Epcot about 7:30pm this evening via Monorail - there was definitely a fire on property next to Epcot. We had a great view of it and the fire trucks and sprays of water! They had the entrance to Epcot CLOSED!!! At the TTC other people were talking about not being allowed to go to Epcot.

I haven't heard anything else about it since then - but this is DEFINITELY NOT the Osceola county fire. That has smoke that is visible (and smellable) from property - really noticable at the MK this morning - but not so bad when we went back to MK this evening.

Poor central Florida. They need some rain badly. I hate to say it, but hopefully they'll catch a little bit from the edge of the tropical depression.

Spent the day in The World today, including hitting Epcot in the evening to catch Soarin and Illuminations. There was a brush fire just outside of the parking lot that forced the entrance road to be closed. We had to park at MK and take the monorail into Epcot in order to get in.

I would bet it was caused by someone tossing a cig out their car window, or something just as careless.

Well it is WildFire season. And with all the debris from the 2 prior years of hurricanes, The area is pretty rife for a bad wild fire. You can still see damage on I-4 From about 5 years ago. With any luck, this will be out in no time.

I see heavy rain predicted for Sunday and Monday from the Tropical Storm. It sounds like it may be well needed in the area.

We still have pumps going to get rid of the rain we don't need, New England has been pounded for weeks with wet weather. I will pixie dust some of it your way

I know - I wish I could collect all the extra rain we've gotten soaked with here (10" over average so far!) and douse those fires! Hopefully the tropical storm will stay mild but very wet for Florida and other areas needing water but not storm damage.

Yes,, I will send some northeast rain your way... We had over 8.64 inches in May and rain for 24 out of 28 days... It has rained here all weekend.. Again.. So here's hoping Florida gets some!

I hope the fire stops really soon. And I feel bad for all the people who are experiencing it. I read a post about it being visible from the Epcot monorail. Didn't I hear they were building some sort of DVC there?

The fire outside Epcot was still burning this morning. If you came into Epcot by 536, you couldn't get into the Epcot parking lot. The fire is to the right of where 536 branches to go to Epcot (the 2 right lanes go to Epcot and the left lane goes toward World Drive). There was a flashing sign that if you wanted to go to Epcot, you had to park at MK and take the monorail.

If you were coming in to Epcot by World Drive, you could get in and park at Epcot that way. They seemed to have the fire contained to a small area, but had fire hoses running near the monorail track just in case it spread.

I'm sure Alberto's rains will take care of any wildfires still burning in central FL. Looks like he'll be dumping lots of rain over the state over the next 2 days....hopefully not doing too much "other" damage.

I just looked out the side window upstairs (which faces Epcot) and can't see any smoke. I also can't smell it when I'm outside so I'm hoping that means it's not a big fire, or not burning any longer.

The fire near Hwy 192 was definitely a problem. We saw it from our pool deck (our back yard area is just a mile or so off property from Magic Kingdom) and the smoke was awful, even the next day. It looked like brown haze as far as the eye could see.

We checked out of the CR yesterday morning and smoke was everywhere around MK. You could see it and smell it. It actually made it hard to see the GF from CR. We had a MK view, an unbelievable, pixie dusted tale there, and the smoke was pretty bad.

I was at Epcot on sat. night and the smoke was unbearable! You could see the cloud of smoke off in the distance... there was a haze all around the park as well. That night we rode the monorail which past the fire and it was crazy! It was SO close to the entrance of Epcot (which was closed off by then). I still smelled smoke sunday morning but not as bad. I think there was at least two wild fires last week.
