Fire at SSR last night

My parents texted me at 2AM to tell me there was a fire at SSR in their section and they had to leave the room.
Two hours of waiting at the pool in the middle of the night.
Some people were able to return to their rooms others were put into different accommodations.

Seems like it was possibly a (scooter/jazzy) battery issue that caused it.

It was a scooter being charged that overheated and caught fire. Just what they need on a sold out holiday weekend.

No way. I have a permanently disabled family member in a very expensive wheelchair. Block charging that and see what happens.

Def might limit who can rent, depending on whose equipment is was.

It was in The Grandstand, but I do not know which room block.

It was in building 16 or 85 whichever people want to call it. I heard 3rd floor with water damage continued to second floor. Just a few rooms on each floor.

Very unlikely, given this is the first major incident with literally tens of thousands of scooters and electric wheelchairs in use over the last 25 years at Disney. And I say the last 25 years only because the senior population is growing. More than 25 years ago, seniors didn't travel as much and such things weren't as readily available.

If that was the case then they would ban charging laptops and cellphones onsite too. One incident and they aren't going to say you can't charge your scooter.

The couldn't limit charging in the rooms, but could they limit charging in the halls? I could if Disney really wanted to ban this they could get the fire marshal to say it was a hazard.

We've have traveled with someone who used a scooter, but since we had a 2br we had space to charge in the room. I could see if we were in a studio or 1br charging in the hallways would be a space saver.
