Fire 2/6/20 at Disneyland

I'm honestly a little surprised that Disney lets people get away with this kind of behavior as much as they do. A lot of other events on private property have a guest code of conduct that specifically prohibits abusive language and it is enforced.

Years ago I was at a 49er game and there was a delay in gates opening. When the gates finally opened I saw a man started berating the ticket scanner for the delay after he already got his ticket scanned. He was literally standing there holding up the line while cussing at the employee. A cop posted at the gate saw this and approached the guy, who immediately turned and started yelling at the cop as well. He was immediately grabbed, cuffed, and escorted out of the stadium. The 49ers banned him from games for the rest of the season.

Not saying that Disney needs to take it to that level but i feel like they should let people know that that kind of behavior will not be tolerated. If the NFL understands the need to maintain a family friendly environment Disney definitely should. I feel like Disney lets that kind of stuff go because it was directed towards their CMs and not another guest and i think it just sets the wrong tone.
I'm with you. I'd like to see security stepping in more and escorting people off property - even if Disney gave them their money back for that day.

I think you'll be happy to hear that the man (and his wife, who was also extremely verbally abusive) were reported by my daughter's lead and the family was escorted out of the park, so Disney did take it seriously.

ETA: They asked my dd if she was ok and whether she wished any further action taken and she said she was ok and she wasn't seeking further action. Those parents set a great example for their child! The family was found when someone else reported a child had taken a stroller and was continuously ramming it into a ToonTown building.

That is good, though I do support Disney's general policy of deescalation. Yeah, they do let some things slide, but I think it's better than trying to "enforce" a rule that just makes the transgressor angry and start yelling, etc. Then it just makes a scene and gets worse and worse. Certainly though when it gets into threatening and abusive territory, they should step in.

We entered DL somewhere around 6:20-6:30 last night. There were CMs blocking the left tunnel. We were wondering what happened...thinking maybe somebody got sick or something. Headed through the right tunnel (which was packed) and looked up Main St (which was packed) and then noticed the bypass behind the shops was open (near Mad Hatter) so we went through there. There was a CM who said we could walk through but please don't take any pictures.

Anyway, we proceeded on into Fantasyland to have dinner at Red Rose Tavern (Beast's Forbidden burger...yum!) and then over to Tomorrowland to watch the AP preview of Pixar's Onward.

Headed back up Main St (about 8:10 by now), candy store had a line so we headed out to DTD and stopped in Marceline's for a treat, then walked back to the garage and headed home.

A couple hours later, I was on FB and noticed there had been a fire and was like WHAT?!?!?!?! We walked in at that time and had no clue! :rotfl2:

My daughter is a CM and was recently told by a disgruntled dad to go kill herself because she had to stop the line so Minnie could go on her break.
A few years ago I spoke with an African American CM. I speak with CMs often and like to ask what their most standout or interesting stories are. She told me a few nice ones. But she also told me that at least once a week a guest says something to her that’s overtly racist. Wow. If you can’t even be decent to a CM while you’re at Disneyland, there’s probably little hope for you.

Excuse me, WHAT??!!
Some people are just horrible. If he is this way in public, I can't imagine his attitude when nobody else is around.

These situations are so hard to handle because you can't just go off and wallop the idiot because kids around...

I was in line at the popcorn cart on Main St. in front of the fire station when the fire started. At first it looked like steam rising but then the thick black smoke was a clear indicator that there was a fire. The CM's handled the onlookers gathered in front of the fire station filming the fire rather well. I saw them evacuate the emporium and the area around the fire station asking guests to walk across to the other side to exit the park. They did not make a formal announcement, but there were CM's out directing people where to go.
After the fire was out it I walked up Main St and noticed that the shops had power but the Jolly Holiday was completely dark. They had security blocking off Adventureland so I walked up to Frontierland and that area was dark as well. The shooting gallery and Rancho del Zocalo were open, but the area on the left side (Adventureland side) was all dark. It was a little strange being in the area without any overhead/building lighting, but thankfully people were courteous and not rushing and bumping into other people. When I left around 8pm the shops on Main St and Carnation Cafe were reopened and there were some lights on at Jolly Holiday, but the restaurant was still closed.

For anyone who was in the park when guests were being re-routed because of the fire: if you saw CMs doing a great job, send in a CM compliment! (Use the DLR website -- click on the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page.) As too many posts in this thread show, there are way too many rude, abusive guests in the parks these days. If you want to show some appreciation for how well things were handled last night, take a few minutes to let management know!
