Fingerprint... Not Needed!?!?!?!

I was at Hollywood Studios on Sunday. They had Extra Magic Hours for guests staying on property, but I was just using a regular AP to get in and wasn't staying on property. The lines were decently long when they opened the gates and they didn't require anyone to scan their fingerprint (I looked down the line and didn't see anyone scanning). They were just letting everyone in who had a valid pass of any sorts. Is this normal when they first open the gates? You'd assume this would be the time most people are abusing passes to get in... Just curious if anyone else has experienced this?

Was this the opening time FOR the AM EMH?
Or was it regular opening time AFTER the AM EMH?

(And, no, it's not "normal" for when they first open the gates.)

Wonder if the fingerprint 'system' was down or wasn't properly working. Imagine that. lol

Fingerprints are turned on an off as its deemed necessary. I've entered all 4 parks at all times of day without needing to fingerprint - generally it is related to crowd levels

If that's the case, doesn't seem very 'secure' to me. Would be easy for wrong person/people to be watching for that scenario!

I don't think it's about security, but rather about revenue. All they're stopping is people using someone else's ticket.

There's no way of knowing though when or where they will have fingerprinting turned off
It's not every morning. It's not every time it's crowded. And it's not always for blocks of time.

Security isn't affected whatsoever. Everyone still has to go through bag check, even if fingerprints are turned off. The only purpose to the fingerprinting is to enforce the non-transferability of the ticket. Disney's fingerprint system isn't connected to any kind of criminal database or anything like that.

Plus, it's a finger scan, not a fingerprint. They don't capture enough data to process it through a criminal database.

Yeah it's just based on crowd flow. It can be turned on and off. If the line to get in gets too long, they can turn it off and it'll just scan for a ticket with no biometric scan. The only reason it would blue light on you is if there is no active ticket, examples would be expired ticket, no ticket, cross over denied for park hoppers, etc.

Same here! It makes me especially happy when I don't have to scan my 3 & 5 year old's fingers!
