Finger Scanning-what a joke

O.K. heres the story, a family member who did not have a ticket for MK wanted to take my daughter shopping there-something she saw in a shop on main st. that we did not see at DTD. She had a hopper and I did, so I gave my family member(not even the same sex) my hopper. He scanned his fingers and nothing happened. The machine spit out the hopper and away they went, blissfully on their way. They called me from her cell with a breathy"We're In" just like in some grade B caper movie! He spent 100.00 on the watch and sweatshirt she wanted. We all laughed at the "finger scanning", doesn't do anything but take up time!

So, let me get this straight. You clearly and knowingly broke the rules and your upset that you didn't get caught?

Ya know, my family wanted to switch our cards around upon entering to see what would happen. We never did and now I know what would have happened.

Finger scanning is a deterrent.

It makes one pause before purchasing tickets from unauthorized sources. The "what if" is bigger than the reward. What if the ticket didnt work, what if the CM requested a second scan, what if your family member was directed to Town Hall, where she had to give identification and that id was matched to your ticket. What if the next time you try to use your ticket it doesnt work and then you have to show your id but your family member's id is attached to the ticket. What if they confiscated your ticket.........and on and on..............

After dropping several hundred dollars on a ticket, most people will be deterred by the what if's.

Those who arent deterred are playing russian roulette. The joke could be on them.

OP please don't take this as a judgement or ill will. Just pointing out that if things went wrong, they could have gone really wrong. Im glad it worked out for you, but others will try it and come back with very different results. Finger scanning is not 100% inspection as much as it is a deterrent to purchasing partially used tickets from Ebay or resalers.
Basically, this is just a first line of defense. WDW has the capability of attaching names and finger scans to tickets as well as other info. They just havent employed it yet on all ticket media.

I was curious about the scans so my sister and I switched our tickets. They would not register and we were asked to present ID.

OTOH as an AP holder for several years if it does pop up as invalid you are required to show ID to gain admission. It happens to me on warmer days so I am prepared.

Perhaps for a quick shopping trip it is no big deal if you "don't get in" but for those who paid money for a day at MK only to find the ebay pass is no good it is a very big deal.

Let's say I buy season tix to the Magic, I am unable to attend half of the games, I give the tix to a friend. He is not asked for ID or proof he is me. He is allowed to attend the games no questions asked. They just want the seats filled. . . .

I had to present ID 3 times on a 7 day vacation because my scan would not work, so I can understand why it would not be something worth risking, but at the same time, I don't see the need for the scans, Disneyland doesn't use them...

My friend and I use her Dad's season tickets to the Lakers every season, no ID is necessary to enter the staples center, just a valid ticket and a walk through the metal detector

There are times the ticket tagging is turned off due to crowd levels. But most times it is working.

I don't mind the finger scan at all. I also think Disney has every right to try to deter people that have not paid for a ticket to get in the park.

Sports tickets are transferrable - they can be gifted or sold for face value, and sometimes a small processing fee. WDW tickets are not transferrable. Like it or not the customer is subject to the rules of purchase. Its your choice to make the purchase or if you don't like the terms not make the purchase. If you choose to make the purchase you are held to the rules of the purchase.

The difference is that for basketball (or baseball, hockey, etc.) season tickets, they're not giving you a big price break on the tickets. They're just selling you every single ticket for the whole season as a package. They will get the same amount of money from you as they would if 40 or so different people bought tickets to one game each. (Disclaimer: Maybe some teams give season ticket holders a small price break. No one we've had tix for has done it, and I'm sure no one does it to the extent that Disney does.)

WDW, on the other hand, is giving you a huge price break when you buy tickets for more than a couple of days. For example, the 6th and 7th days on our parkhoppers cost only $3 per person/day. If I sold those 6th and 7th days to someone else, WDW would lose out on the money they would have charged that person, had he bought them on his own.

The intent is totally different.

But the cost of the game tickets is the same for every game. With MYW passes, the cost between 5 days and 10 days is about $3 per day. So they want to prevent someone from buying a 10 day pass and sharing it with a friend who goes on different dates. The cost of two 5 day basic tickets is $205 each or $410 for two. A 10 day pass is $221. They make the 10 day ticket so much cheaper per day to commit one person to 10 days in the parks. It reduces the cost per day to about $22 instead of $40 per day with the 5 day pass. But in return for that low price, only one person can use it.

When I was there in May, I did witness them turning off the machines during peak entrance periods. But there were other times that they were definitely working. So that uncertainty should discourage someone from buying a partially used pass.
