Finger scanner and older children

i remember being told to bring photo ID as an adult in case finger scanners had a malfunction when trying to enter park.

What about older kids...old enough to have adult ticket so have to do the finger scan....but not old enough to have id? What happens if the fingerprint doesn't work?

Thanks.

My 12 yo had trouble with the finger scan on one of our recent trips, and the CM at the turnstiles took his photo with her iPad and said that we didn't need to worry...if there's a problem again they'll just look at the photo.

My mother has issues with the scanners a few day entering the parks.

The CM just got a manager who asked her a few questions; she didn't have any ID on her.

I was usually taking one for the team and going through the bag line!

ditto. as an adult, I wasn't asked for ID, they just took a photo with the iPad.

Our 15yo had trouble the second park day and the CM just took his photo on her iPad too.

It's always good to carry ID, for reasons far beyond the tapstiles. But I've never been asked for ID there, specifically.

Haven't had a finger scan fail in a long time but when it did they just asked what kind of ticket I had - how many days and say hopper or whatever and let us in. With kids you just have to make sure they remember what finger they used (right pointer).

DD was told the first time she had to scan her finger to use her thumb - it's bigger and thus somehow better for the scanner. Not sure if that is true but she never had a problem. Now that she is bigger she uses her first finger. DH (we have APs) accidentally changed scanning fingers from one trip to another (was using right hand then used left on the next trip) - they took his picture with an ipad - we tease him that he's on a 'suspect' list at Disney :-)

This might sound weird, but what are they doing with the photos on their iPad? I might have an issue with my children's photos being taken on someone's tablet. If a stranger wanted to take their picture, I wouldn't allow it so I'm a little hesitant about a CM taking a picture..... maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I'm protective of my children's pictures.....

The iPad photo can be shared at all the park entrances for verification throughout your vacation.

Saves having most guests go to Guest Relations just outside the park to resolve ticket problems.

Do you use Photopass? All those pictures sit in a Disney computer awaiting purchase by the guests posing for Disney photographers. Also, pictures are taken of guests during several rides (for guest purchase).

I don't think the CM owns that iPad; the latter is company property used as a tool to accomplish the tasks CMs do at the park entrance.

Then don't go to DLR. Everybody gets their photo taken the first time they use their ticket for entry.

Yes, I'd say you're being paranoid. The tablets are Disney property. The photo is just attached to that ticket and stored on their computer system. It's not going to be shared on some pervy website.

My son had a problem getting his finger scan to work in August. They took his picture on the iPad and usually asked him what park he visited the day before.

For a few years in the 1985 time frame they took your picture and printed it on your (cardboard) ticket which did not have a magnetic stripe or bar code. I think the picture was discontinued when they changed to magnetic stripe tickets around 1990.

I hate to be the bringer of concern but if you are at Disney your kids picture is being taken not only by security but photo pass in the background and other people taking their own pictures with you in them. And then there are the creeps that may just be snapping shots because they are creeps.

An iPad at the entrance is the least of your worries.

Yup you are pretty much camera the entire time you are on property except in hotel rooms or bathrooms.

I don't really know, but I'm at DL now, and they take everyone's picture when you use the ticket the first time and it shows on their iPhone or whatever it is when you go in the gate--no fingers and at all.

I suppose if you asked them about how they store/retain/use the picture they could tell you.

I was just thinking about that! They punched a hole in the ticket for each day, too, I think.

Last year my daughter worked at the Magic Kingdom in Guest Relations and one of her posts was at the turnstiles for just this situation. With the iPad she could look up the pass and it would show date and place of purchase, name of holder and where it had been used. Using that info she'd ask questions to see if it was the same person if they did not have an ID. She found a lot of guests who did not belong to the pass in question and have to call security to come seize the pass.

Do they wear magic bands? Some of the rides automatically take pictures and put them in photo pass.
