Finding you have a discount when booking

I have read threads where people have called to book their trip and found that they have a discount on their account. Can someone tell me how this works? Do I just need to call and give my email addresses and see if anything is there or would they have emailed/mailed me?

If you've been there before you just ask them if there is a pin code attached to your phone number or email address. They will look it up and tell you if you have any.
