Finding out a name of a song with an ipod or i touch?

isn't there a way to put your ipod/i touch up to a song that you hear to find out the name or artist. My daughter doesn't think you can do this...can you??

I hear a song that I like, since I don't know the title and would love it on my ipod you put the i touch up to it some how (hey I am new to this too , LOL ) and the i touch will tell you the name of the song....

Not sure.... but I know it doesn't work on regular iPods... it needs a microphone to hear the song.... Does an iTouch have a microphone like an Phone does?

I think that it only works on iPhones and not iPod Touches because the latter lack a microphone.

I read that the 2nd generation ipod touches can have a mic hooked to them, and it now works with them.

That was just after a quick google.

Shazam is the single greatest app I've downloaded so far for my iPhone. I'm amazed every time it comes back with the right song, bang on. It's like magic to me. There've been more than a few occasions when I've been, er, several sheets to the wind and have heard a song at a bar and wanted to know what it was; not only does it get that info for me, but it saves it so the next day, long after I've forgotten I ever even heard the stupid song in the first place, I can see the song/artist info and download it from iTunes (yes, I know I could've downloaded it right from the original song info page at the time I tagged the song, but me + booze + iTunes = very, very expensive. I have learned my lesson.)
