um, maybe I shouldn't post this, I don't want to be a downer. but I am anyways. we just found out a friend of ours and her husband were killed in a motorcycle accident last night. I'm just so sad right now.
we've known her for about 20 years. her name is Deena. her hubby (who she just married 2(?) years ago is Randy. (the sad thing for HIS family is his brother just died of an illness 2 months ago) .
I know you guys don't know her, but I just want to say tonight some things about her, I ALWAYS SAID "Deena is one of my MOST favorite people in the whole world!" she made you LAUGH!!! her laugh was contagious! she got to laughing, and would start slapping the bar with her hand and couldn't stop, and next thing you know, EVERYONE was laughing!!!
Deena NEVER had a bad word to say about anyone. (now,at a close knit bar, everyone gossips. NOT Deena) she was a good soul, had a good heart. one of those rare people who saw the good in everyone.
the first time we met Deena, we were at a night time party at a friend's house. (gee, late 80's? early 90's?) they had a pool, and a few of us started joking about going "skinny dipping". Deena:" I can't go skinny dipping.. .I don't have a change of clothes!!!"
well, we all ended up swimming in our "skivvies" and she and I went into the bathroom together to dry up and change. tiny bathroom. 2 tipsy girls trying to change quick. she fell and grabbed onto the shower curtain. she and said shower curtain fell... in slow..motion... one shower ring at a time.... into the tub. she falls(splay legged) into the tub with the plastic curtain entangling her, (and me, as I'm trying to disentangle her) . she keeps saying "You seen everything I got!" and we're laughing SO hard!! and she makes me PROMISE not to tell ANYONE!. she gets dressed, I stay behind to (do a little business) and by the time I get outside... she has told everyone! "Diane saw everything I got!" we were fast friends from that day on!!!
and the last time I saw her, about 3 months ago, she was telling that story again!
she and I had a lot in common. we later worked together at Wine and Roses (the rest. where I now work again). and..she would come in to see me on Monday afternoons at the Bittersweet (where I used to work). she and I both cleaned houses. after she quit cleaning, she "gave" me a couple of her long time customers. (now I have to tell them) but one she didn't give up cause she would take this old lady to chemo, and shopping, and take care of her.. (deena had gotten married and moved 40 miles away and still drove in for this one woman, and do her shoping and cook and clean for her)and would stop off after.
deena and her ex remained friends, as did steve and I . (randy and her ex Tom became friends, and spent holidays together, cause of their daughter) deena was one of the FEW who knew that Steve and I were "dating" again, and kept our little "secret" until we were sure (we didn't want a bunch of gossip) Deena was not a gossip, she could keep a secret, and she and I would talk about about it. actually, now that I think about it, she was always a great encouragement (to me) for steve and I getting back together.
on a "lighter" note" her hubby Randy had a few minor legal problemswhich led to another funny story : steve and I got remarried at the courthouse. randy and deena got married at the courthouse. they were "dallying" about getting married but, as she tells it, "randy had to be at court that day anyways!"
deena leaves behind a daughter, Tina, and a grandaughter, Amanda (13 now).
deena lived in Fla. for 2 years since we've known her, in DeBarry,(?) between daytona and Orlando, and told me we should check it out. I am SO happy to report that while she spent those couple years in Fla with her mom, she told me she accepted Jesus as her saviour. (don't mean to offend anyone, it just makes me feel good to know that)
ok, I'm done. sorry Nebo to hijack this thread. I can still hear Deena laughing now. only now she's laughing with the angels. and I just wanted to share with you guys, my friends.
I have had to cancel my October and December trips this year and having those same withdrawel symptoms...trip reports are the only thing getting me thru my Disney Detox
