Finding Cheap Flights

After reading recent threads about the cost of flights, I've decided to have a look myself and see what is out there.

However, when I search on places like Kayak and Opodo, I can only find direct flights (even when I don't tick the box for direct flights only). Also, the only airlines coming up are BA and Virgin and the better prices seem to be coming from other airlines.

At present I am using hyperthetical dates of 6 August and return 24 August so I can get a feel of the trend of prices. How does everyone find the indirect flights that seem to cost less?

Help please everyone - I'm sure "expert" Wayne is out there and can help a flight novice like me :rotfl2:

No idea why indirect are not showing for you. Just used those dates and plenty if indirect on my screen, just now they are too expensive, you have to decide of you want to tie in now and pay a high price or risk waiting, chances are a cheaper price will show but no-one knows you might end up paying more.
Relatives going with us next summer decided to buy now, they have paid £740pp indirect(VA were over £1k pp) personally I would have waited but they wanted to book now.

These are the Kayak results:

Air Canada£839

bmi£2318

British Airways£925

Continental£864

Iberia£884

KLM Royal Dutch£1074

Lufthansa£980

US Airways£841

Virgin Atlantic£923

Multiple Airlines£837

Thank you Wayne, I knew you would come up with an answer.

I've had a bit of a fiddle and, although it only comes up with Virgin and BA flights on the main Kayak screen, I have adjusted my "pop-up blocker" and now getting alternatives.

All I can say now is - WOW, I could well be forfeting my collection of Virgin airmiles and going with another company with a stopover!

p.s I don't suppose you remember meeting me back in 2009 do you? We were on the Magic at the time and spoke to you in the queue for one of the restaurants! Sorry, sound like a stalker but I'm not really!

Since you posted I have been thinking all day, no bells ringing. As soon as I got home and started telling Karen  I remembered straight away, I remember noting where you sat in the restaurant after you had spoken.

A lot of scheduled airlines only put seats up for sale 11 months or sometimes a bit less in advance , so for your august dates you might well be a bit early in checking.

If you try July dates which is the same season as August you may get more choice.

We're hoping to book our next trip before 15 nov to get advantage of the Disney hotel offers so will wait till then to look for seat prices for September next year.

PS . just noticed Wayne you've stayed in the Travlodge MG East a few times. It was our fav hotel for around 10 visits till we tried staying on site at one of the All Stars around 2000. Went back last year for a night stop between Disney and Universal for old times sake and it's still as nice though now owned by Holiday Inn. Great memories at that place :)

It was the 1st hotel we stayed at in 1993, included in an Airtours package with flights via Bangor, Maine. Went back again in 2001 but didn't enjoy as much as the 1st time, felt they had let it run down a little so never went back, should be better now HI have taken over but never see good rates for our dates.
We also have very good memories there, one fantastic evening in the diner(pink Cadilac in the midle if anyone remembers) at Old Town across the road, drinking pitchers of Bud and singing to the old jukebox, I took some video which I transfered it to DVD recently. Brilliant night but we paid the next morning:sick: :rotfl2:
