Finding a permanent place to keep the camper

This has nothing to do with Disney World, but with camping, and I'm going crazy.

We're going to be shopping for a new camper, to be used as a vacation home. We live about 10-11 hours from one daughter and her family, and 9 hours from another daughter, and don't like being so far. :( We can't keep our camper at home, so I want it set up semi-permanently.

We want to buy a camper and leave it at a location to be determined, so that we can all drive 5-6 hours at the most and meet in the middle.

I'm researching this, and having the hardest time finding that location on the internet!! We don't want one of those $3000+ seasonal rentals, because we won't be there every weekend, so it will be a waste of money to rent seasonally-unless it's one of those quiet little places. We have a few around here that rent for 1/4 of that for the season, because there's not much to do around there. That's what I'm looking for-a place where we can get together once a month or so, and just visit. Not a place with water slides in the pools, and hay rides, and bingo, and arcade machines...just a place where we can sit around the fire and talk.

I'm also thinking of buying a lot at a permanent place, but where are they? I know of a campground near here, where I could buy a lot for a few thousand dollars, and leave the camper there permanently. I want to find a place in that location 5-6 hours away. If I find a web site that claims to list them all, the first thing I do, is look up this local place-and inevitably, there are no listings, when I know there are many! Argghh!! So, when I look at the places 5-6 hours away, I am sure I'm not seeing all that's there.

Complicating matters is that I could be buying this place in any one of 3 or 4 states: northeast PA, southeast NY, western CT, or northern NJ.

Does anyone know of a web site that lists spots where we can leave our camper, semi-permanently, that ISN'T a luxury resort, but just a simple place? I have Googled like crazy all day!!

Thanks for any help.

I don't know of a website like you mentioned but what about looking at Craigslist for sale ads for the areas of interest. You will find many campers for sale on permanent lots so that might give you a start on where some are and the pricing. We found for areas we were looking it varied wildly. From as low as $800 up to $6000.

Thanks. I have tried craigslist, I guess I'm just surprised that these permanent site places don't have web sites! I am ready, willing and able to buy a permanent site or rent for the season, in the Catskills or the Hudson Valley of New York, and it's a real challenge to find a place.

Thanks again!

No problem. We found very few campgrounds with websites also. If they did have them there wasn't much information avaliable so we just had to call around. It's a frustrating procedure. Hope you find something that works for your situation.
