Find Your Own "Directive" - the February Weight Loss / Life Style Change Challenge

Anyone else having a terrible Super Bowl?
Not only is the Broncos office fairly useless, but I've also been eating everything around. You'd think the fact that I'm watching both the football and the commercials would mean less time to eat, but apparently not.
I'm so frustrated with myself right now.

Congrats on the PR but boo to your puke. Which race did you do today?

I think I read that every pound lost is 20 seconds gained. I was at 150 for my half marathon three weeks ago and I'm down 3 pounds, came in about 90 seconds under that today.

Good choice. :D

I did the dolphin dash 5k in Santa Monica this morning. It's a loop along the beach near the Santa Monica pier. Beautiful start to the day.. Headwind was a little strong but still a lovely run.

Wow I haven't heard that 1lb/20 seconds thing. Totally makes sense. When I was around 135-140 I was so much faster, but not even in great cardiovascular shape. I can really feel every step now that I'm in the 180s. Definitely going to focus on what I'm eating more so I can make my runs easier. :)

I just decided to not even go to the super bowl party my friends had. I knew I'd just eat all the junk, and I wasn't really feeling great about my self control today. Don't give up! Stopping the snacking now is better than continuing to eat all night- all is not lost!

We're just hanging out at the house watching the game because nothing else is on and Stephen Colbert is on after... So far I'm super disappointed in the commercials and the half-time show, so I'm super ready for it to be over. Haha.

So far at 0%. :( I had Tom with bloating and surely water retention. I'll see where I'm at next Saturday. I'll be sure to do my food tracking. I'm also tracking in a little notebook my meals and stomach symptoms. The times I eat and the times tummy cramps start up. I'll see how this goes and if I can find links to foods I'm eating for sure this way.

We skated tonight. I did so well getting the muscle memory back. I also beat the anxieties of staying along the wall and went around several times at once before my toes had me stopping for awhile. I may try out the blister pads or something. I wore two socks.

Question of the Day - February 8

Let's talk... Exercise.
Eating healthier is only one factor in losing weight. You also need to increase activity levels and work it out.
Wall-e has learned a few moves and is doing his best to impress Eve. Surely through your weight loss endeavors you have
learned or adopted some exercise routines that are helping you on the path to losing weight and feeling great.

What exercises do you do to help shed those pounds quicker?
How many minutes per day do you try to work out?

This Weeks' Challenge: Try one new exercise option this week and see how it feels.

(ie: try a stair climber machine, run on a treadmill for 20 minutes, lift weights, etc)

Ahhhh I'm awake. I don't want to be I'm so not a morning person. These 2 a.m. wake ups for Disney races are really going to mess with me. :coffee:

Anyway the QOTD. I'm sure you're all shocked and amazed that I run because I never mention it here, or take over the thread with it or anything. :duck: I will say though I don't run for weight loss. I mean it's happening slowly with help from the running, but that's not why I'm doing it. That's actually the only motivation I know I don't have haha. I do two 30/45 min short maintenance runs where I'm going to be starting to work on my speed and hill repeats next month. Then one longer run which is normally closer to the 2 hour mark now with my increasing miles.

I need to do more planks. So I think on my off days I'm going to accept this challenge, and do some sets of planks and challenge myself. My core is seriously lacking.

I was awful. I made an onion dip I usually make for big parties. It's a block of cream cheese, cup of Parmesan, cup of mayo, a large Vidalia onion, black pepper and time, it gets baked and delicious. Usually I think ahead if it's not for a party and halve the recipe or split it up and put it in multiple containers. Not last night. DH and I ate at least 3/4 of it! I feel gross this morning. Making me feel worse? Another snow day with kids home today, which means no run or my normal circuit class for me today. Ugh.

Going right now to plan my food for today and enter it on MFP, and I'm determined to stick to it.

Just a brief check in. First to report that I am at 0% (actually something like -10%...).

Somehow I have a really hard time getting my eating under control. Just far too many opportunities for bad choices. At least I went for a nice 40 minute run on Sunday and am determined to get more running in this week. I am planning on signing up for a few races in the spring/summer (5k in May, two 10ks in June) and hopefully this will motivate me to keep training on distance and speed. Most likely I could run a 10k without any training, but I would be very slow and in Germany it seems that there are far fewer slow runners taking part in races. I feel like I need to be able to get my 10k time under 1 hour and 15 minutes so that I am not going to be emberassed by being the last person crossing the finish line...

My favorite is the elliptical. I had a great home one for years but the last time it needed repair, it would have cost $300! (I forgot to renew my extended warranty). So I use this 3 times weekly in the gym along with strength training.

In the warmer weather, my hubby and I enjoy walking, hiking, and biking.

As for the challenge, I have a great fitness trampoline that I haven't been utilizing as much as I should. I love that thing - why haven't I been on it in 2 weeks? I'm going to take the challenge and jump 20 minutes each day this week.

I'm pretty proud of myself last night - lots of temptation at the super bowl party I was at (pepperoni rolls, cheeseburger sliders, sausage/cream cheese dip), but I didn't eat any of it (ok, I had one chip with the sausage dip) and ended up losing 2 1/4 lbs this weekend. I'm officially no longer a part of the 300lbs club which is nice.

For the past month I have been walking for 45 min in the am (the length of a Breaking Bad episode) and another 45 min after work. I also make sure I walk at minimum 5,000 steps during the workday. On weekends I normally walk about an hour and a half in the early morning and that gets me to my 10,000.

This past weekend I wanted to start changing it up, so I started mixing some running in with the walking. At first it was just running the last 5 min of my walk, but yesterday I went with a 5 min walk, 5 min run, 4 min walk, 4 min run... working my way down. I got a pretty good sweat going and my heart rate was where I wanted it, so I think I'm going to keep the 45 min walk in the am, but start mixing up a run in with a walk in the pm - maybe do one of those couch to 5K programs or something. I'm also going to start working out with some of the kids I coach doing footwork drills with a speed ladder. I know that will motivate me because I don't want to look bad in front of the kids!!!!

Uggh . . . I ate an enormous amount of food yesterday. It was my "non carb counting day" but I went way over the top. I don't know why I do that. I actually felt sick to my stomach at about 1am. Not good. That's OK - today is a new day.

QOTD: Exercise. This is where my motivation ends. I ALWAYS get at least my 10,000 steps in each day, but that's it. I don't take classes, I don't lift weights and I feel much guilt over it. I used to (meaning years and years ago) have a weight training regime that I followed pretty religiously and saw great results. I know I should start it again. Maybe I'll start this week!

That's awesome - congratulations!

RUN! I run run run and that's about all I do. Throughout the week my runs are between 30-40 minutes. I run M, W, Th at those distances. Saturdays and Sundays are my longer runs and those range from 1-1.5 hours. I don't run for minutes though, unless I'm doing a tempo run. It's funny because I did not used to be a runner at all but now I love it.

As for the challenge - I do very limited strength training at home (like 15 reps of 5-7 different exercises for arms, legs, and core). I alternate and try not to do anything leg crazy as I don't want to mess with my runs. With that said, I'd really like to focus on my core this week so I'm going to try and do 3 core work outs. Last week I did 1 haha.

OK, I think I've made up my mind. Going for it and ordering the Charge HR. My poor credit card, haha. I liked the sounds of the Garmin Vivosmart 2, which beeps every hour you're inactive, and forces you to get up and move to clear out the "motivation bar"... But there were so many reviews of it being a PITA to sync that it seemed counter-productive.

DH got the daybed taken apart and put in the attic today, so the rowing machine he got from his work is set up now. I'm kind of excited to use it this week! No excuses now - the treadmill, weight bench, and rowing machine are fully set up and accessible, so there is absolutely no reason to not get up and actually use them.

I have the Charge HR and I've been using it for about a month - I really like it. The one thing I will say is make sure you are wearing it correctly. I was getting some false HR reads because I had it too close to my wrist and not a couple inches down like they said you should during exercise. It was giving me higher HR than I had, but since I moved it the readings are much more accurate.

My new favorite exercise is trampoline "airobics" at my local trampoline park which is an hour class. In fact, I'm going again tomorrow. It totally hits every muscle in my body. I am still sore from Saturday's class. We also just bought a stationary bike which is nice to hop on for a half hour while watching TV. I also have a gym membership to Planet Fitness which I haven't used yet as there isn't one too close to me but I plan on stopping in a few times a month to mix it up. For $10 a month I don't feel so guilty only going in so little when I have other forms of exercise.
