Went to the vet today and walked out with a $600 bill and my dog needs surgery:eek:.
The first thought is that we will cancel our trip and stay home with our sick baby. But then I just ran a quick count.

Flight $359 (great deal but non-refundable)
MNSSHP (2 days) $229.84 (non-refundable)
Room deposits (1 for WL/ 1 for Contem) $482.62 (non-refundable)
Photopass preorder $99
8 day hoppers $585.91
Castle Dinner $109.52

$1865.89 has already been spent and a lot of that is non-refundable. :headache: Guess we are going. :rolleyes1

I am very sorry to hear about your dog- poor little thing!

I hope you're able to go and have an enjoyable trip anyway.

Can't help with the trip...but I live in VA outside DC...and the rescue I volunteer with uses a vet in Richmond...that offers reduced rates for many surgeries...

I actually just had my cats dental and extractions done there...and it saved me so much money.

I will dig up the website.

I am sorry about your dog. I am always worried sick about my dog when I am away(he is very, very, very old). I am not sure I could go if mine was sick, I have had him for 15 years, he is my other child.

Can they get the surgery in before you go and then leave him with a close family member?

You can get the castle dinner still refunded and the photopass prepaid refunded too. You can sell the MNSSHP tickets on ebay for a descent amount. The rest you can always call and ask, you may have luck at Disney, probably not the airlines. I know that is not a lot refunded, but it is a little if you really feel you need to stay.

I am so sorry about your situation.

As the "parent" of a 4 year old rescue Cairn Terrier who has over 40 hand-made scarves (some from a prior Cairn), foul weather gear (it's Annapolis....land of sailing, after all) and assorted winter sweaters.......I completely understand your pet is part of your family.

I hope everything turns out well for the patient......and wish you Bon Voyage.

We always seem to find a way when it comes to the little ones who are there, always, withing nothing but unconditional love.

Truly, I hope all is well with all of you.

40 hand-made scarves (some from a prior Cairn),

At first reading I thought it was so strange that you used the fur from your prior dog to knit a scarf for your current dog. I had to read it three times before I got what you actually meant!! :rotfl:

Yeah, our "kids" all have fur (well 2 have shells ;)). My mother-in-law will keep the dog (well all the critters actually) so that is not really an issue, but I dont want my baby to be sick and us so far away. And of course with $2000 already paid to Disney, $1700 due for the room and $1500 worth of food to buy still that has to be considered. I suggested downgrading the room, but my husband was not a big fan of that. We'll see.

These things always happen at the worst times dont they?? :headache:

Oh boy, yes. I have a friend with 3 dogs and 2 birds. What's the first thing I ask about when I talk with him? "How are the kids?"

It's nice that your family stays with Grandma when you travel.....so does my dog....but it's easy.....my 90 year old mother (who still drives!!) lives with us. We had to.......when she lived alone, she would "dog nap" our other terrier....and not return him.

Anyway.....will the surgery be over before your trip? I hope so.....so you can travel without worry.

Shadow and I will keep you in our thoughts! Following the idea of over 40 scarves - many themed - I'll put on his heart scarf for good luck.....doubles as his Valentine scarf.

Ok, I'll stop now before you have the nice men with the butterfly net come to collect me.
