Finally some good news

I've just received word that they did not run out. There are still plenty of Castaway Club sling bags that DCL will be able to offer us when we return.

They've got so many piled up that, in a temporary change in procedure, they will be giving one to every cabin once sailing resumes since everyone is technically a Silver Castaway Club member once the cruise is over anyway.

LOL. Not booked on a DCL cruise, but my wife would kill me if I bought home another sling bag from somewhere.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. The sling bags have been around forever and we've all been begging DCL to update the CC gift. They probably have a warehouse just stacked to the ceiling with bags at this point. They're going to be around for a long long time. I look forward to getting another one though because that means I'm finally back onboard!

I think it would be bad juju for DCL to give out the same bags, pirate bandanas, lanyards, etc they used in 2020. It's the perfect time to refresh everything!

I was actually hoping that as a courtesy Disney would still count your cancelled cruise towards your silver, gold or platinum status. One can Dream, right?

It's not like there's a really big advantage to being in, or advancing levels in CC.

being able to book activities earlier and getting a 'free' Palo dinner means a lot to some ppl.
I'm indifferent to them but a lot of ppl obsess about CC benefits.

Oh I agree and I think the entire program needs to be revamped. I'm just one away from Gold is all. I also agree with DisneYE that the Palo perk is a really great deal. I've also read that some were able to switch to to brunch which would be awesome!

Becoming Gold would also increase my chances of snagging that inaugural voyage on the Wish.

We haven't gotten one. Our second cruise was cancelled. A coworker has the backpack, I'd love to have one of those!

Maybe they need to start sending them out as consolation prizes and then be ready with new gifts once cruises start back up.

We were once told by a SR host that had been working for over 10 years on different ships that DCL put an order for 2 million slings when they first started giving them... this was like 5 years ago & they still have them.. gosh.. they're horrible and I'm sick of them... the best ones were the beach bags with rope handles.. still have one stored somewhere.. really good quality... but they got rid of them bc slings are obviously way cheaper to buy.

We feel the opposite.. the only beach bag we'd gotten were kind of stinky (the burlap one) but the sling bag has been brought on several non-disney outings. Comfy on your shoulder, but not as hot as a full backpack would be. We only need a beach bag style when we're carting around towels, otherwise we prefer something we don't need to carry in our hands.

Love the backpack we all fight over it - I claim it as I booked the cruise - most comfortable bag ever to me
DH likes sling bag he can have all of them I have my lovely backpack
Beach bag - hmm I’ve got like a hundred different ones - but my fav is the one I purchased on the ship made out of sail material I use that every day !!
I agree I would be happy to just be on a cruise 🏝
