"Finally got around to it" Trip Report (La2kw's July '07 Wonder Cruise with pics)

We went back to the ship and showered and got cooled off. The Bahamas are pretty hot in July! We packed up most of our stuff and then we got ready for dinner at AP. When we sat down, we noticed the whole dining room was vibrating. Our assistant server said it was because this dining room was closer to the engines. Made sense to me. Anyways, I ordered the Wild Garlic Mushrooms - served in a flaky pastry cup cooked with fresh herbs and garlic cream sauce; Creamy Butternut Squash Soup - garnished with chives and drizzled with sour cream; Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon with Seafood-filled Pastry Shell - with a rock shrimp, crabmeat, tomato and feta cheese ragout; and Boston Cream Pie - light sponge cake filled with vanilla pastry cream. The appetizer, soup, and steak were good. Everything else was just okay. The Boston cream pie was very dry and unlike any Boston cream pie I’ve had previously (not in a good way). DW had the Smoked Salmon Parcel with Baby Spinach - stuffed with fresh herb cream cheese and red bell pepper coulis; Creamy Butternut Squash Soup - garnished with chives and drizzled with sour cream; Cheese Cannelloni - with a light cheese sauce and sauteed spinach; and no dessert. DS had no appetizer or salad, Maple-glazed Salmon - with green beans and smashed red skin potatoes; and Double-fudge Chocolate Cake - with chocolate sauce. DD had the Caesar Salad - with shaved parmesan and focaccia croutons; Bacon Wrapped Filet Mignon with Seafood-filled Pastry Shell - with a rock shrimp, crabmeat, tomato and feta cheese ragout; and no dessert. Everyone liked their food, but felt that Triton’s was much better.
This was our least favorite restaurant. The food was so-so and the over hyped “show” was quite unimpressive. They also introduced all the servers and had us applaud for them, which I thought was bizarre. I especially didn’t feel our server deserved the ovation since as mentioned earlier in my report, he didn’t do such a great job. Our assistant server was much better. Other cruises we have been on usually parade baked Alaska at this meal, but we didn’t see any of that. The servers just walked through waving napkins. Ooookaaaay.

Here's some pics of the restaurant.

We did decide to see the Disney Dreams show tonight, and that was kind of excruciating for me, but DW enjoyed it. The best part of the show was when the theater lights up with fiber optics. It was more impressive than AP, that’s for sure. After the show, we went to Shutters and bought a couple photos, to the shops for a few more gifts, and then we went to finish packing and putting out our luggage.

Day 4
Time to say goodbye. We woke up early, had breakfast at AP, and then waited around for the doors to open. We were off the ship by 8am and checking back in to OKW at 9 am. It was great having our car already there at the terminal.

We enjoyed every minute of the cruise. We will definitely cruise again with Disney, but not very often since it's so expensive. The cost is worth it though since everything is top notch. Our favorite things were Castaway Cay and dinner at Triton's. Our least favorite things were dinner at Artist's Pallette, our server, and leaving the ship.

Here are some random shots of the ship.

I so want to do a cruise but I get motion sickness very easily.

DW also gets motion sickness rather easily, but had absolutely no problems on this cruise. She did take Dramamine to keep it at bay.

Great trip report! :thumbsup2 I had to laugh throughout the whole thing because I took so many of the same photos 2 years ago when I was on the Wonder!

We also thought Castaway Cay and Tritons were the best part of our trip.

Thanks for the walk down memory lane with your photos, makes me anxious for our next one in a few months!

Do you wish you did the 4 night instead of the 3? I'm debating on the 2 for our family's 1st cruise.

Thanks!

No, we're glad we did the 3 nighter. As much as we loved DCL, it's really too expensive for us to do more than what we did. Our next cruise will probably be the 4 nighter, but just DW and I and probably using points, so it will be cheaper. Also, we were't sure how well DW and DS would do, but now we know that DW will be fine.

Great TR! We also tested ourselves on a 3-night cruise on the Wonder back in October of 2006 & we did great. We are going on the Magic in April and we cant wait. Your photos are stunning. I too thank you for the walk down memory lane!

May I please use your Rustmore photo as my desktop background?? :flower3:

ps ... what kind of camera did you use for these photos?

I enjoyed reading your TR. Loved the pics! We are planning on a cruise with our DS's ages 11 & 9 next August. I am trying to gather as much info as I can. Anything we for sure should do or not do? Question about the dining-My DS's is a picky eater, if he wants a hotdog or chicken strips is that available for him?

Thanks.

I just returned and wished I had done the 4 night. It was tough trying to do everything I wanted to do on the last night with the packing, etc. Would have been nice to relax more after the wonderful day at CC.

great TR. We were on the 4 day Wonder right after you.:thumbsup2

What fun and what gorgeous pictures! Wed are sailing on the April 17 3 Night and it was such a treat to read your report. I was very interestd in your opinions of the restaurants. We have reservtions for Palo's on the last night and I've been trying to decide if we should ask for a particular restaurant rotation so we could choose the restaurant that we'd miss. I was thinking of missing Parrot Cay but after reading about your experience at Animator's I'm not so sure. In any case thanks so much for taking th time to do this and treat the rest of us.

Thanks for the photos--yours are some of the best and most illustrative that I've seen when scanning the forum! I appreciate the time you spent getting them posted:thanks:
