Now for my soapbox - for all kitty lovers, please, if you floss your teeth (and why don't you?), make sure the used floss gets somewhere where kitty won't find it. Gross to you is yummy and very dangerous to them.

Dodie, I am NOT saying that 's what happened to your Abby, just a word of caution for all flossing kitty lovers.

And please don't flush it, it can make even bigger problems in your plumbing.......

Dodie, I'm sending you many good thoughts and prayers for your precious Abby. It's certainly not silly at all that you've asked everyone for their prayers or pixie dust for your kitty. I think the animals are among our best friends, and I truly believe that our love for them is as sincere and as real as it is for any person we might love.

I hope you will get good news soon that Abby is well on the road to recovery. Know that you have many DIS friends here who are also animal lovers and who understand your worry and concern about your beloved pet.

Abby is in surgery.

Blood tests indicated high white blood cell count - her body is fighting something - probably a foreign body/string.

Please think good thoughts for my baby.

Abby is out of surgery.

There was no string.

The vet just felt that he couldn't risk NOT checking, so he did a small exploratory incision to see what was going on. Her lymph nodes in the area were very swollen and the bowel was irritated. She must have had either a viral or bacterial infection for awhile.

The good news is that she will be going home tonight, since she's not particularly happy at the vet and he thinks she will recover better at home. Lots of meds, some special food, and some limitations...

it no fun when our furbabies aren't feeling well...i know i had a bout with my kitty a few weeks ago. i think i've just had to realize that the poor thing is old (she's 10 years old now). ~sigh~ i think that she's developed a sensitive tummy and can't have her food switched around on her. (i know...bad mommy for switching foods!) we were trying to find a less expensive option for her, but it wasn't very pretty...the poor thing was sick all weekend! but once i put her back on her regular food, she was fine...oh..and no "treats" of canned food either...

I'm sorry to hear she's sick, but glad she's coming home. More P&PD on the way to help her with a speedy recovery! And Blaze (one of my kitties) is sending her "behave" vibes so that giving her medicine will be easy. (Blaze is very easy to give medicine to most of the time)
