Hello all!
Just wondering if anyone else will be at WDW during the week after Christmas. I am beginning to make final preparations already. If anyone has any suggestions on itineraries, meal plans, packing stuff, or whatever come to mind then PLEEASE post it. I'm sure there are many many people (like me) that are going during that week and will need as much input as possible. THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!

We are travelling a little sooner, but here are some things we've started to do in preparation...

bought snacks, sunscreen, travel toiletries, diapers, wipes, travel wipes container, first aid kit, moleskin, park hoppers, etc...and packed them in the suitcase!!! (No wondering where it all went!)

We packed all the warm weather clothes (since we can't wear them at home)...capris and short sleeved shirts and cardigans for the girls, swimsuits, beach towels, etc. We will add the winter clothes we wear regularly next week sometime - and just keep out some comfy stuff for around the house since we don't have any plans next week (we leave next Saturday).

I printed out (on blank wedding invitation leftovers - you could use cardstock or write on index cards, I'd imagine) a cheat sheet for each day. I'll pack them all and only bring one page each day (that way if one gets ruined or wet, they're all preserved in the hotel). Day one includes flight information and times, rental car reservation number and information on where to locate them in the airport, hotel reservation and address and phone number plus directions to the hotel, and all the cancellation numbers from the many times I've switched due to special rates (just in case).

Day two is magic kingdom - including times and confirmation numbers for all priority seatings and parades that we want to see. (and MVMCP information for us) I also printed out response cards (so index cards for you, I'd say) that include "Places to eat in the Magic Kingdom...or Places to Eat at Disney MGM"...since we are on a budget and vegetarians, I wanted to be sure I had a small list of things we might like to try or can afford particularly well within our budget. (One says Aunt Polly's - uncrustables kids' meals 3.99...Columbia Harbor house veg chili 4.99, etc)

Day three is a full sized card again that has times for the parades, spectro, etc - and the different rides that we'd like to see/ride that are appropriate for small children (since I've read up on the ones that might be too scary). Anyway - you get the idea ;)

I also bought the girls each their own backpack to use as a carryon luggage. Inside are two ziplock bags (incase of spills or emergencies - or, I suppose, potty accidents or dirty diapers now that I say that!). In the ziplock bags are one complete set of clothing - one summer outfit and one cool weather outfit. This way if our luggage gets lost, they will have the cold weather outfit they'll wear (since it's freezing here), a cool weather outfit (with a hoodie and short sleeved shirt and pants) and a warm weather outfit. I also packed their swimsuits in there (they each have several so some are in the suitcases, too). I'll pack our toiletries in my carryon - and an extra outfit for myself and DH in ours as well. The baby's will be a diaper bag with a pack of diapers and container of wipes - just in case - and some outfits. There is still so much room - from using ziplocks and pushing the air out - that we can pack a LOT more in the backpacks. (Snacks, toys, maybe even a special small blanket for the plane since it will be getting dark).

We have designated a spot in our master bedroom that is out of the way for all of our Disney stuff...this way we know exactly where everything is - but it's not in the center of the house where our guests will be for the rehearsal dinner, yk?

Hope that helps you!! :)

thnx a lot fam! I will definitely take all of your suggestions into account! I hope the weather will be nice when we go.

We will be at WDW the week after Christmas too. I just want to mention that you should bring jackets, gloves and hats along with shorts, T shirts and bathing suites. It is better to be prepared for all kinds of weather when visiting in late Dec/Jan. We go every year at this time and usually see a little of both types of weather. Hoping for WARM weather this year!

GLOVES?! wow! it gets that cold there?

Yes!!! It does get that cold there!!!!!!!! We have been there for Christmas and New Years for the past 4 years and have always packed our winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves, and blankets!!!! The first year that we were there was to celebrate the Millennium on New Years Eve at the MK. It was absolutely FREEZING that day..around 35-40 degrees..there were a LOT of people that were very unprepared for this and were totally miserable in their shorts and sandals!!!!!! All of the stores in the MK were completely sold out of hats, gloves, etc. You would not have believed some of the things that people were wearing on their heads, ears, and hands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  It was rather comical!!!!  We have used our winter wear every year since.. it always gets into the 30s or 40s at some point during our trip and we are always prepared for the worst!!!!!!:teeth: :teeth:

PACK EVERYTHING!!!!!!::yes::

We'll be there 12/27-01/02. Glad I read this thread about the
winter clothes. We're driving in from Ohio so would have had
at least what we wore to the car but I'll be sure to have
2 days warm clothes and I might rethink bringing bathing suits.
Guess that means our waterpark day should become something
else. We vacationed to Sarasota when I was little and it seems like we were always at the beach for Christmas-maybe we wore
jeans and sweatshirts!
We have 5 days and we're just getting 3 day hoppers. We'll
spend one day at Quest and DTD and one day at either
IOA or a waterpark. Maybe I should just buy the IOA tickets now!
sigh
I have some PS's- one for Boma, one for Teppanyaki and
one for Chef Mickey's. The only thing I stumped about is
New Years Eve.....we might just get Wendy's or McDonald's,
eat popcorn and drink pop in our room and watch TV. I'd like
to see some fireworks but don't want to brave the crowds.
We'll do Pleasure Island one night for a fake NYE celebration
a little earlier than 12M.
Hope you all have fun!

If you plan to be in a park on NYE be sure to call now and make any dinner reservations that you need. Some of the places are already completely booked up. Have fun on your trip. I'll be leaving for mine on 12/31. I cant wait!

i have made just about every preparation that i can possibly think of. All of the PS's have been made and drafts and drafts of intineraries have been finalized and proofed. I just wanna make sure that i didn't forget anything! I've been planning this thing since July. I just hope everything goes as smooth as i hope it does. shouldn't be a prob though. it'll be awesome. i can't wait. one more month.......

:sunny: Count us in too :sunny:
We'll be there from December 31st to January 16th.:wave2:

Our first 3 nights are at the Renaissance Sea World Resort where we will ride the trolley, shop at both malls on International Drive, swim and whatever else the days bring us. We will probably go to Sea World on the 1st or 2nd.

Then off to Old Key West. Have PS for Cape May Cafe and Rainforest Cafe. We purchased 5 day hopper passes. We plan on Disney Quest, DTD & Resort hopping to check out all the decorations. Hopefully we'll bike some, boat some (swim?) and my dh will golf. We have purchased 30 Q & C vouchers, so off to some nice lunches or dinners at Beaches & Cream and Pepper Street Mkt. :teeth:

We have friends in the area, so we will be visiting with them on the weekends as well. ::yes::

Familymoon, great idea about the sheets with each day planned with sheet protector ... love it and I must do that. So many wonderful ideas from this board!! How did I do my WDW in 2001 .. not as well as this one.

Thanx to everyone:cool2:

Foobs,

Looks like we leave the UK for Orlando just a few hours before you travel.

I've been in Orlando for New Years, in early Jan, late Jan and early Feb, It's true you might get the odd day when the day time temperature might not get into the 60's, but that is failry rare - just look at the archive of records on weather.com for proof of that. At night time you could also find it gets down to around freezing - had that one time myself - but again thats very much the exception rather than the rule.

I had one occasion while at Busch Gardens in January when, having gotten drenched doing one of the flume rides, the air temperature wasn't high enough to dry off our wet clothes and we had to buy sweatshirts. It wasn't cold as such, just not warm enough to dry our stuff out unless we'd sat in direct sunlight the whole time.

The average daytime high for Orlando in Jan is 71, the average low is 50.

I'll be very surprised if the majority of days there at that time dont allow me to be wearing shorts and a T shirt during the day, with jeans and a light sweater being pressed into servive for the evening. mind you, I've also had it where it;s been plenty warm enough of an evening that I 've been able to stay with shorts and T...

And Shortbun, dont leave your swimming trunks at home, you'll be very unlucky if you dont get a chance to make use of them. I've had 80's during the day time in January, you'll be glad of having your cossy if we get lucky. I also expect to be able to go to Blizzard Beach during our trip...

Yes, take some warmer clothing in case of the weather being less than Floridian, but dont think you'll be in hat, gloves and fleece everyday. I'm taking one fairly heavy fleece, a couple of lighter sweaters and thats about all - I'll be wearing warm clothes to travel to the airport here in the UK and that should be enough for most eventualities.

I guess it's all relative to what you're used to - a Floridian winter day is usually equivalent to a UK summer day, so we're more able to stick with the summer clothing at this time of year than say, a southern Californian.

Even so, you really can expect some really nice sunny, warm days for chilling out (also remember that Dec/Jan are the months of lowest rainfall for Florida). If we do get the bum's rush weather wise, I'd suggest using the poorer days to do your park visits - try to save the better days for that poolside lazy day...

I'm getting ecxcited about the trip now. It's the first time I've done Orlando with kids - my partner's boys, 12 and 10 - and I can't wait to see their reaction to it all.

All our tickets are bought, the condo is all set, got the extra SD memory card for my digital camera (kids first visit means beaucoup pictures !), got my planning aids ready, vouchers & coupons etc, ready to be printed off, and final bits of prep ready to go. I've not made any PS's yet, but we aren't overly bothered if we don't get them done - yes we plan, but I like to be pretty loose about things, exactly for factors such as the weather which might change our plans. The plan for New Years Eve is to go to USF or IOA so I may make a PS at one of the restaurants there, that aside, well probably play it largely by ear.

One fly in the ointment is that I've just this week been placed on insulin for my diabetes. No biggie - I don't like needles but it's gotta be done - it just means I have to get letters from my GP so the airline will let me carry my needles and medication on the plane, get used to carrying glucose sweets about and having sugary stuff available in case of hypo's, eating snacks regularly, yadda yadda yadda.

Nothing can put the dampeners on things though - it's not often I want Christmas to be over, but we can hardly wait for the next 4 weeks to go !!! :hyper:

:Pinkbounc :eek: :crazy: ::yes:: :bounce:

haha, i'm not planning on packing my swimming shorts. i don't think we have time for that anyways. it's gonna be back to back park to park. only 5 1/2 full days so i gotta meticulously plan all of the rides and stuff to the hour. i think im getting to anal about this. ok doode, lighten up and breathe. it's a vacation right? hehe. man oh man, i hope this works out well.

going crazy again foobs  :bounce:

We leave for the drive down on Christmas evening(from Boston). We are stopping in Delaware for the night. Arrive on 12/27 for one night at Coutyard at DTD ($49), then off to Swan for club level 5 nights. Dinner PS 12/28 at Castle in MK, NYE at BD in MGM, NY day breakfast (10:45am) at Boma. We have a bunch of Q & C vouchers for fast food and are planning to try the new FRESH at Swan/Dolphin once for breakfast also. May still sneak in Kona Cafe..our favorite. We are pretty leisurely with touring and will try to get in the holiday mood as much as possible(CP at Epcot, Parade at MK, Christmas Country BEars, Mickey's Christmas show in Tomorrowland, resort decoration touring....and of course NYE at MGM and definitely some football(maybe at ESPN on the 1st. Can't wait!

Just FYI - Blizzard Beach is closed for rehabbing during our visit the first/second weeks of December. You might want to look into it for your visit to be sure ;)

Hey all,
our plans are to go to MK early on the 31st and then tough it all the way through till the countdown. Is MGM better? I just thought that the ambience of the castle and the music and Wishes would be winning. haha. am i wrong? Will the crowd be too much of a crowd?

Familymoom,

Yes, thanks, I do know that Blizzard Beach is going thru rehab right now, but it's due to re-open on Dec 14th, so even if it is a few days late opening, it should be up and running by the time we are in town. Typhoon Lagoon closes for rehab as BB re-opens and looks to be shut until the end of feb.

We arrive December 26th (fly from Seattle on a red-eye Christmas night). We are staying the first two nights at Marriott Orlando World Center and then 5 nights at the WL Villas, then 2 nights at Portofino Bay/Universal Studios.

I would like to add to previous comments on the weather--we too have spent the last 4 holiday seasons in Orlando. And YES, it really can get FREEZING! Three years ago, it was in the 80's upon our arrival--around Dec. 16th. Then, several days later, it dropped into the TEENS!!!!! We were very unprepared (only brought summery clothes 'ya know, since the previous year it really had been quite warm), and dropped lots of dough buying sweat outfits and jackets, especially for the little ones. It was so cold that all of the poinsettas froze to death, despite Dinsey trying valiantly to put these big-giant warm-air blow dryers on all of the landscaping. The morning after the coldest day (and yes, it was 14 degrees out) Disney had huge trucks at MGM Studios actually REPLACING the thousands upon thousands of poinsettas. I think that was the year the orange growers were frozen out all over Florida. Whoaa baby it was cold.

That was the coldest it has been in my time there. However, December and January are unpredictable. Yes, the AVERAGES are warm, but that is because it can be in the 80s one day and in the 40's the next. We froze our buns off at Candlelight Processional last year, even WITH jackets. My mom got so cold we had to leave early.

Sooo, PACK FOR ALL CONTINGENCIES!

Wow! Must say everyone at work is getting a little sick of me announcing how many days are left before I leave for WDW! :rotfl:

Plans are made, PS made -

Brother and I fly Boxing day (26th) from Bermuda, drop dog in Philly, get on plane to MCO. Crash at Hyatt. Get up on 27th, drive to BWI, check in, leave bags - go to Epcot and it's all down hill from there!

We have PS for Flying Fish, California Grill, Boma, Germany (CP night) and hopefully thanks to Susan at Dreams Unlimited - a dinner with Imagineer.
Meeting up with some friends from home and going to see Blondie at Pleasure Island NYE - bought tickets yesterday.

Check out Jan 2 - go find the dog, who amazingly will be in DeLand (just up the road) showing - spend next 3 weeks on Florida show circuit.

January 24 - go back to work

:(

I must say I have been to WDW when it has been freezing - gloves, hat, big wool sweater - it was a bit cold going down Splash Mountain and in the line for Thunder Mountain the CMs had us all singing to keep warm...

Whatever the weather - it's going to be a blast!
:jumping1:

aaah!! the days are going by so slow but at the same time so fast cuz my finals are creeping up and projects are due VERY soon! haha!! gotta finish well so i have a 100% good time! thnx everyone for the inputs. any more post christmas travelers???

We'll be in the "world" Dec. 30-Jan. 5!! Fooboy, being from Texas, you should know all about unpredictable weather!! Here in Houston, it was down to 30 degrees the other night, then the next day's high almost made 70, lol! As for MGM on NYE, some friends of ours just got back yesterday from their Thanksgiving trip and they commented on how packed MGM was. I guess all the construction has made a relatively small park even smaller due to parts of it being closed off. We are doing our NYE marathon at EPCOT. Have a great time when you go!!
