Filming fireworks, Spectromagic, Fanstamic, dark shows/rides, etc...

Have any of you have any luck at filming the fireworks, spectromagic, fantasmic, dark shows or rides?

I'm going in May and bringing my digi camcorder... is it best to switch to the mode where it's dark or will this brighten the light flashes WAY too much?

I'm interested in hearing people's experiences filming these things.

yes I film them. However, you want to use any "manual" focus mode that you may have. Definately put it on a sports type of mode. I use manual focus so that when they explode you dont get the in and out focusing from the camera. It's fairly easy though. Comes out nice.

It took me a while to get it right but I do film all the fireworks shows and parades at night. Try using your Twighlight mode for the fireworks or if there is a setting for fireworks, experiment with that.

My DH took photos of the fireworks (they're in one of my Disney Albums listed below). I filmed it also, but haven't watched it yet. DH uses a Cannon D20 SLR Digital Camera. Not sure what mode he had it set on though.

A trick we used on fantasmic!
When we tried to focus on the water screen, our camera would automatically focus on the projector behind it, but when I caught the safety rail at the bottom of the screen it was close enough that the screens would come into focus. Just a little trick if you don't have a manual focus!
