My mum had an unexposed film in her checked-in bag on her recent flight to Italy. Does anyone know how likely it is that it's been damaged by the airport X ray machines?
Quite likely that there may be damage. Had it been used or not as if it hasn't been used I would be inclined to throw it away. If pictrues have been taken get it developed asap and see what they are like. I have heard with hand luggage x-rays that it is advised unexposed films be subjected to no more than 3 screenings.
Wouldv'e thought with just one pass she should be ok, but as Claire says a few exposures (if you'll pardon the pun) will make the film "foggy". Possibly not worth taking the risk.
She had it in her checked-in baggage unexposed on the outbound flight, then used it whilst she was away, and had it in hand luggage (in the camera) on her return.
I'm tempted to say that it would seem that Mother doesn't always know best , but I know it will only get thrown back at me!
