Two of the members of our group are catching a 6:30 performance of Cirque. The other three will be filling time until their performance is over.

We have one member who cannot walk very far and we're trying to come up with ideas to fill those couple of hours. We don't really want to have a meal, since we'll all be eating together afterwards.

(Can you take a boat from the West Side to the Marketplace?)

Any ideas would be great . . . we've got everything else planned out pretty well, but this seems to be something we can't quite decide on.

how about a movie? there is a great movie theatre near cirque. as far as getting to the marketplace from west side, it appears you can as there is a boat landing on each side.

Does it necessarily have to be time spent in Downtown Disney? Are you staying at a Disney resort? Or is there a resort that you'd like to hang around for a bit? I would think a nice relaxing evening at a Deluxe resort with a drink and conversation would be nice. Then meet up with the others for dinner. _HM

I noticed there were boat landings, too, but I don't think I've ever seen a launch at the Marketplace. I thought maybe that dock was just for those folks who are renting small watercraft.

Personally, I'd love to go to a movie, but my MIL is totally blind. Even though I'm sure she wouldn't complain, I'd hate to ask her to sit through a movie.

A thought just crossed my mind: Can you rent wheelchairs at West Side for use all throughout Downtown Disney??

There are boats that run to the marketplace - they used to run to the jetty at Fulton's crab house, and beside House of the Blues at West Side, but I can't remeber ever seeing that recently.

The thing is, there are no actual shuttle boats around the lagoon at Downtown - they're all resort launches for Old Key West and Port Orleans.

Shame, as it's a long walk from Rainforest Cafe to the Cirque!

It seems to me that several years back there were boats that ran from West Side to Marketplace and back again. BUT 3 years ago we were staying at Dixie Landings and when we got on the boat back to the resort the pilot kept announcing "this is not a boat to west side, those boats no longer run". I don't know what is the deal now.....

My first suggestion would be to join your friends for Cirque - it is a wonderful show (even great enough to be worth the cost of admission).

But if that isn't an option, I agree with the poster that suggested visiting one or more resorts. You could probably visit all the ones on the monorail if interested. Or you could visit the boardwalk area. Or visit Animal Kingdom Lodge and relax there for the entire time (there is plenty to do!).

I believe that Downtown Disney has much shopping to do. A movie would be nice too. The show generally lasts about 1 1/2 hours. Get ice cream!

Jackie H ., I totally agree about Cirque . . . it's amazing and well worth the price!!

Two of us saw this show last visit, and since my MIL is blind, we didn't think it was worth it to buy three more tickets...since it is such a visual show, she couldn't appreciate it. And on the other hand, we couldn't very well leave her alone somewhere while we went!!

We're kinda leaning toward maybe just dropping off the two members of our party who are seeing Cirque, then driving back to the Marketplace. If the weather's nice, maybe we could rent a boat there or shop.

Here's yet another question: If we took the shuttle launch from Disney West Side to Old Key West, is there anyplace there where we could sit outside and maybe enjoy a cool drink or ice cream, etc??

If you are staying onsite, you may be able to borrow a wheelchair for free for the length of your stay. I'd check with Guest Services at your hotel.

We've rented a vacation home, so we're day guests. Anyone know if wheelchair rental is available at the West Side?

Since you have your car - I think your idea about dropping the two seeing Cirque off is a good one. You can drive over then to the Marketplace and the one who cannot walk that far can also be dropped off there and wait for you to catch up after parking. I bet there is wheelchair rental over there too. You may want to ask on the DISAbilities board, I'm sure someone there will know. Over at the Marketplace there is lots of shopping or snack eating to do and sometimes entertainment too. Plus there are lots of sitting places and as you mentioned the boats.

Have fun!
