"Filler" gifts for college aged kids?

PERFECT!!! DS and his friends have a running joke about Zombies-no idea what it is but they often have some zombie references on their facebook pages. I might have to get him the Zombie hunting shirt too.

:thumbsup2 My son already has that book, but I got him a zombie dvd (not sure of the name, but it's not Zombieland - he has that) and a zombie tshirt from Threadlesstees.com

Does he have a favorite TV show he watches? My son loves the Big Bang Theory, so we've been buying him the DVD's of each season. He's also getting a strange-looking stuffed creature that's one of the characters in the game Left for Dead. Any accessories for their laptops is good--a new carry case, an external hard drive, a container of screen wipes. He can always use a new college print t-shirt or sweatshirt. I know my son likes those, or how about a college logo water bottle? We're trying to shift from the old plastic to the new BPA-free ones. Anything food related of course :)

ETA: How about one of those docking stations that charges up their electronic items?

Check out this website: www.coolstuffexpress.com. I found it through my son. His sisters were asking for Christmas gift ideas for him, and I saw the link to the website. The site has a lot of fun, quirky gifts. You might have to look under the various categories to find something your son might like.

A heated blanket with some cookies and hot chocolate mixes?

some shaving stuff?

Does he have a car? jumper cables? Small tool kit?

Small crockpot if allowed with some soup mixes?

Heated blanket not allowed in some dorm rooms either. Along with most small appliances. At my daughter's school if it has a heating element, it is not approved as a general rule.

For filler stuff she is getting a couple of paperback books she wanted. Some more pajama pants. Slippers. A new bathrobe for going to and from the shower. Refills on stuff like laundry and dish soap. And external hard drive for her laptop - her music collection, along with a couple of games, and the hard drive is pretty full. And she needs to do backups. This wouldn't work for a guy but she wants new perfume.

I agree with the squishy pillow, i think anyone in my college class would love that.

A snuggie is a good one, also whoever mentioned the laundry basket full of snacks - great idea. Hand warmers for walking to and from class, I lived for these on campus! Also I always needed mechanical pencils. I would not have any use for a calendar because most college age students would either have a planner or can use their phones for calendars/adding in assignments.

My boyfriend loves the nerf things too and he's 26 and in residency :rolleyes1

Boys will be boys no matter the age! :)

Some of DS's fillers over the years:

Temporary tattoo mustaches
Beer pong balls (DS is 21)
antenna balls
silly string
sticky hands - the college kids love these
portable roll up lap top cooling mat (Best Buy, its nifty!)
T-shirts
Univ. clothing, t-shirts, sweatshirt, sweat pants, beanie, scarf etc.
Baseball cap for fav. team - DS gets a new one every year
Snow Ball maker
Frisbee & Football
Slippers & Jammie pants
Chap stick
Electric Razor
Sonicare Toothbrush
Nerf Gun

DS's Univ. is going to a Bowl Game in January and we are all going to attend :yay: so I added some school spirit stuff: beads, pompoms, thunder sticks, confetti launchers etc.

A real tattoo is also an option. Most tattoo parlors sell gift certificates. My daughter got a new tattoo this year as a Christmas gift from her sister and brother in law. This was number two.

Does his school have an online store? Maybe some shirts or a hat with his college on it.
Also if he has his own printer, some ink (that is the one thing i always run out of).

The printer ink is a great idea! I know my daughter dreads it when she has to buy ink, especially the color cartridge. They are pretty pricey.

I am hoping that her roommate (who uses the printer more than she does) will buy her ink for Christmas now that you mentioned it!

DS18 has asked for gift cards for Christmas, which we will get him, but I wanted some "things'' for him to open too. I am stumped what to get though. Any ideas for the college crowd?

How about a digital voice recorder to record lectures?

Both of these are great ideas-- college students can never have too much university gear. Ink can also be pricey and appreciated (Don't know if that's too expensive to be considered a "filler" though).
How about fun flash drives and ear buds? Fun iPod/phone case? Coffee mug?
Think Geek is great-- Love the lightbulb credit card.

Defiantly NOT him. :lmao:

I have one of these already, I wonder if he wants it?

I have a son who is a Sophomore in College and these are some things we've gotton as fillers for him and for his two 17 yr. old brothers:

A 'squishy" (micro-bead filled) pillow from Brookstone. They all love them.
Cologne & shower gell (matching)
Sneakers
T-shirts
Sweatpants
Hoodie
Earbuds
Gaming Headphones
Small rechargable shaver set (Sharper image)
Alarm clock that projects the time on the ceiling
Flannel Sheets
Nerf Guns

Last year we got some things for college, but not too many...the biggest was a thicker foam mattress pad. We had gotten one of the cheap ones when he first moved in. Got it on overstock and it wasn't too expensive.

The thing that seems to be popular this year was popular when my kids were young are "Bay Blades". It's crazy, but they're playing with them again

Stocking type stuff:
We've gotten things from "Think Geeks", too
Rubics cube
Slinky - silly things that they used to get as kids are always fun
"penny candy"

With 3 teenage boys I could go one forever...

I saw a kid at Walmart buying Bay Blades a few weeks ago. We still have our arena and probably some of the spinner things somewhere. They were pretty popular when our boys were in elementary school. :lmao:

It sounds like the squishy pillow is a good idea-plus, he can use it on the bus ride home :lmao:.

I got DS a umbrella last year which he thought was an odd gift, but he said he was glad to have it the first time it rained, he also likes neckties since he now has to dress up more than he did in HS.

I am just happy DS finally started wearing JEANS, a tie is out of the question :lmao:.

They have a tunnel system at school so technically he would never have to step outside so weather isn't really an issue.
