Ok.. so what I have learned is that Tokelau and Fiji do not have the same sq ft. Can you tell the difference though? I am planning to take my parents to Disney and I think we are staying at the Poly (or maybe BC/BWI). There will be a total of 5. Would it be better to stay with Tokelau for that many people in the room? OR it will not matter too much? What is the other bldg that has more sq ft? Thanks!!

Anyone? Ahhhh... my Polynesian Lovers are probably asleep! Well... there's tomorrow! You guys will eventually get up and check this board and open my thread! :)

Tokelau, Tahiti and Rapa Nui have larger rooms.

In our stays we've only been in Samoa, Hawaii and Rapa Nui.

I can tell the difference. But even the "smaller rooms" are nice and roomy. BC rooms are noticeably smaller to me and I believe BWI rooms are similar in size to Y&BC.

We always stay in Tahiti, however, on our last trip (last month) we stayed in Fiji. I had no idea that the rooms were different sizes but I could not tell any difference at all. From what the PP has said Tahiti's rooms should be larger than Fiji but they looked the same to me. Have fun.

Fantasia, I think the extra footage is between the "inner" bed and the wall to the bathroom. Kind of unusable dead space to begin with. Our room in Tokelau had the extra room but I don't think it would be missed because the space is not really functional. I'm thinking of doing a POFQ/Poly split stay for my next trip. I know you have mentioned how much you like POFQ. Do you think that's a good idea? I stayed there in 2001 but I'd like to try it again because we had such a good time there. I'd like to try out the rehabed rooms at POFQ. But I love the Poly too! I don't think I would like BC/BWI but that's just me.

We've stayed in Fiji twice and loved it!! It has an awesome location and you will get a great view. We always request the 3rd floor.

The first time we stayed there we faced the marina and had a clear view of Space Mt, the Contemporary and the EWP.

The second time we were on the other side and overlooked the beach, the luau (we could hear the music each evening) and we could watch the monorail go by when laying in bed!!

Fiji is also close to the GCH... Sorry to drift away from the topic- I just love Fiji!

If you are interested in BWI, have you looked into the BWI deluxe rooms? They sleep 6 comfortably with plenty of room.

There are also deluxe rooms at the BC for about $60 less than BW. If your interested in seeing pictures PM me.

I was in both size rooms on my last stay and I took measurements (that you can see on my standard rooms page floor plans) and the room is the same width but it is longer. The bathrooms are layed out different (in Tahiti and Rapa Nui) but the bathroom is actually the same dimensions for all the longhouses so the extra room is in the bedroom area. The original smaller rooms are not small (as you know) but the extra room is a big difference as far as where the beds are. There is quite a few feet of room next to the bed and some added room near the table. Also the fan is over the table area and not between the beds. Other than that the rest is the same size. The hallways in the newer buildings are quite a bit wider also.

Aloha

Steve

Two other differences that I know of are that the closets in the newer buildings open for the full width while there is some dead space in the older buildings. Of course, that will be a moot point with the rehab.

Also all the rooms we've had in Rapa Nui have had switches over the night stand for the lights over the beds. It is a nice convenience.

Good to know about the width, Steve. The rooms seemed wider to me but I knew that could be an illusion because of the overall roominess.

Aloha!

I know what you mean. I use to think the same thing that the larger rooms were wider also but now after measuring them I know better. Now as far as the closet goes my room in Rapa Nui and my room in Hawaii measured out exactly the same including the doors from my notes. Where is the dead space? I even have photo of both closets and they have doors that run the length of the hall.

Aloha

Steve

The rooms we've had in Hawaii and Samoa have had closet doors that only took up part of the frame or perhaps it was that the doors just didn't slide over the entire width. Anyway, there was perhaps 12-15 inches on either side that was only accessible by reaching behind the door. For instance the safe was in this "dead space."

Not the end of the world, but the closets in Rapa Nui were easier to use.

I agree with Tikiman. I've stayed in both Tuvalu and Tokelau, and the room in Tokelau was noticeably larger. There was more space at the end of the room near the table and sliding glass doors. It felt absolutely cavernous for one person, actually. I felt sort of ashamed staying in a room that large, when I knew some families were cramming 4 people in an All-Star room. And those hallways in Tokelau are huge, too. Very, very wide, way wider than is necessary really, lol.

I know what you mean. My first stay at the Polynesian was in Moorea (now Tahiti) and when I stayed in an original room the next time I did not notice a big difference in the size. I mostly noticed the bathroom layout. Well when I checked into Rapa Nui in August it was the first time in years I had been back in the larger room and it felt like I could have a football game down the length of the room. I guess the extra room is great when you have a lot of luggage and you start building up the bags of stuff from shopping.

Thanks Steve and everyone else for sharing the infos! So... should I change my request to Rapa Nui to get a slightly bigger new room or should I just stick with Samoa... or maybe Fiji. Tokelau is not done yet as far as new rooms goes right? Fiji is done correct? And they haven't started on Samoa or Tokelau yet.. correct? Sorry.. I can't remember everything of what is what is done. You guys are wonderful!! Thanks for your help! :)

EDIT TO ADD: Steve... my mother will be using ECV... does it matter as to which longhouse to request? I mean the closer to GCH is better right.. so which one would be better for us? Thanks!

I don’t know that I would ever let the room size be what makes my decision for where to request unless I needed that extra room (like I was cramming 5 in the room). Fiji is done Samoa and Tokelau are not even scheduled to start this year.

As far as your Mom having the ECV than maybe for that reason you might want a accessible room in Rapa Nui with the bathrooms that have more room and the extra handles on everything in the bathroom and tub. There are only a handful of these rooms in Rapa Nui and they all face Tahiti and not the parking lot. They are also done with the new room and you would be very close to the TTC and bus stop and less than 5 minutes to the GCH.

I "think" I remember reading that your spending more time in Epcot this trip. If so I would pick Rapa Nui for the ease of getting to the TTC.

Great memory! Though I should try the BC or BWI... I am more familiar with the Poly and I know I can't go wrong with this one. If I choose BC or BWI and it's not what I expected, I'm afraid I may not fully like my stay there. I'd rather be dissapointed when my parents are not with me. And I just want my parents to stay where I have already have stayed at. Rapa Nui sounds good. Now... if I can only find a great rate for Nov 22-27! This is during Thanksgiving! I think I am going to dish the December trip and just do the NOv. It's a little cheaper.. and a little less crowded.

Well for an extra $200 per night you could go all out & book PLVC under the special room only rate (I just checked on their site & its available) 11/22-27 was $3,010 (includes tax)
