Figure Skating Championships

Although I didn't watch it, I recorded it. Now I can't wait to watch it! Knowing who won doesn't take away from my interest-I love to watch the performances.

How has parking been at the coliseum? Did you take the bus from 4 Seasons? My DS8's class went on Monday. He said it was "soooooo booorrring" but he was glued to the tv last night telling us about the girls that pick up the stuffed animals and flowers. ;)

We've been driving in each day and haven't had any problems. We're parking in the VIP parking though closer to the main rink.

I've been a skating fan for over 20 years, so I've been watching online (Icenetwork) and on television.

 Becky!

I've been involved in the sport my whole life. I wouldn't miss watching Nationals for anything. I'm watching the Mens freeskate (early groups) on Icenetwork right now. I'll be watching the final goups on tv later today.

My DD is a figure skater. She's at a school dance tonight, so I'm DVR'ing it so we can watch it together tomorrow. She's a huge Rachael Flatt fan and has been for years. Here's a pic of her and her friends w/ Rachael which was taken a few years ago when Rachael was competing at the senior level. Some of the other skaters teased Rachael when I took this picture thinking it was funny that Rachael had a fan club. Well, look at her now! My DD and her friends knew talent when they saw it. I told DD back then that Rachael was so good that she'd be in the Olympics one day, and she was! :thumbsup2

Was that taken at State Games of America in CO Springs? I coached at that competition for three years - I totally recognize that tunnel and the arena in the background! I didn't know Rachael competed there - but I do remember watching Brandon Mroz skate his I think Novice free program there! I loved it there, I'm kind of sad that its in San Diego this year!

She did. Got some nice pictures too.

Johnny Weir just got the Reader's Choice award from Skating Magazine.

I bet your sister was very excited! How cool for her :)

What a great interview Johnny gave when accepting his award. That was the last thing I saw before Icenetwork went off the air. I can't wait to see the final 2 groups on tv.

Are you going to stay for the exhibition tonight?

The interview with Johnny is the last thing that happened. They are resurfacing the ice now.

I will be here for the exhibition tonight. Evan is filming a piece for Rise. My sister would kill me if we left.

I'm no skating expert, but I do enjoy watching it.

Saw the Ladies short (taped) and long programs yesterday, and the ice dancing.

I thought the piece they did on the technical judging was very interesting!

They showed Sasha Cohen's skate from last year, along with the voices of the technical judges. They call off each upcoming element, and if there is any question about it (edge, landing, etc), they call "review" and it gets scrutinized afterward.

It seems like this would make it more objective, but also harder to predict the score.

Please tell me they showed Jason Brown on television. That was amazing!

I feel bad for Jeremy Abbott.

I do too, bit it's been a competition where decisions are by a fraction of a point.

Right now, I don't know who's more excited-Ryan or John Coughlin (pairs champion). He was jumping up and down and ran out to the kiss and cry after Ryan won.

I feel bad for Jeremy too but I'm so excited for Ryan. It'll be interesting to see who USFS sends to Worlds, Four Continents and Junior Worlds.

Richard Dornbush (2nd place) won the junior grand prix this season. He was seventh after the short, though, so there might be concerns about consistency.

I wouldn't be surprised if he was named to the world team though. It's automatic for the National Champion but they almost always name 2nd (and 3rd when applicable) to the team. I'm more curious Junior Worlds and Four Continents. I'd like to think Jeremy would be named to the Four Continents team based on experience and past National titles.

You found me! I can't believe I missed the men's free skate on TV! For some dumb reason I thought it was on tonight, sigh. I missed Ross, and Ryan!

You'll get your chance. Just saw the team for Worlds. Ryan, Richard Dornbush, and Ross Miner. None of them are on the Four Continents team though. That's Jeremy, Armin M, and Adam Rippon.

We were there in Greensboro last night for the Ladies. My DD skates and she was so excited!

My dh was at home and was supposed to be recording it to DVD but he messed it up, the disc wasn't in right. I took this as another opportunity to ask for us to move into the 21st century and get DVR, but no....

Anyway, she really still wants to see the Ladies freeskate televised since we didn't get to hear any of the comments. Also we were so far back we didn't see details close up- though we were right behind Scott Hamilton, and had a great view of the back of his head!

We don't have a subscription to Ice Network, but I will get one if she can watch Nationals on demand with it.

It should be on demand on Icenetwork at some point. Hopefully you'll be able to watch it soon.

I'm glad Jeremy was named to Four Continents. I'm sure he's bumming about not making the World team though.

How was the exhibition? What did you think of the Skyliners? I heard the crowd gave them a standing ovation?

If you get Universal Sports channel, they're rebroadcasting it. It's on the upper cable numbers in my area.
