Fifth Disease???

We got a letter last week from my DD's pre-school. Apparently there had been some kids in her class that had this. Well, today my DD3 woke up with a fever. We kept her home from school. Well, sure enough about an hour or so ago I noticed her cheeks looked red. I'm taking her to the Dr shortly to get checked out. She's had fevers before but never did her cheeks get so red.

Anyone know of any other symptoms? She hasn't been congested or anything. She's seemed totally fine up until waking up with the fever and telling me her throat hurt. Can anyone else share your expertise on the topic?

I have also heard of this going around. It is very contagious, and if I am thinking of the right thing, can be very dangerous to a developing fetus. If your daughter has Fifth's has been around any pregnant women, let them know as soon as possible.

Hope your little girl is feeling better, soon. (And if I am thinking of the wrong thing, someone please feel free to correct me if I am wrong)

Oh, and the red cheecks are a rash caused by fifth's.

My youngest DD had this when she was three (she is five now).
I just remember the really red cheeks and fever. She was fine other then that. It was summer time and the rash would get worse in the sun. It took about a week for it to go away completely. I hope she feels better soon!

I used to teach at a preschool and we had kids come down with this every year. Usually they felt pretty good. The main symptoms were the red cheeks and a fever. Keep her away from any pregnant women. Hope she's better soon.

I had fifth's disease when I was in middle school. I had a rash all over my body. Sorta looked like posion ivy but way more itchy. I ended up getting little tiny scabs all over my body. I think it took about 2 weeks from beginning to end. I hope she feels better.

My DS had it in elementary school. His main symptom was a rash all over his body. We assumed it was a reaction to orange juice, and sent him to school, only to find out that it was spreading like wildfire.

I believe his Dr. told me then it was related to chicken pox, but don't quote me on that.

My DD had it in the 4 or 5th grade. Her main symptoms were a rash and fever.

Typically in children it is just the rash and fever. In adults it can cause reoccuring joint and muscle pain. Google it and you will find tons of info. My middle son was in preschool when it ran rampant through the school and of course he got it. I was also pregnant and had to have several blood tests to make sure that I was not getting it as it can harm the babay. The preschool teacher was an older woman and about that time started considering retiring becuase she kept having all these muscle and joint pains-she tought she was just getting too old. Another mom from the school was having similar symmptoms--finally someone figured out it was an adult reaction to Fifths disease. The teacher felt better after a couple months and taught for another couple of years!

My daughter had fifth disease in kindergarten, just a slight fever and a rash, and the rash got ten times worse if you gave her a warm bath. The rash is like a lacy red rash on their bodies and looks like a hand slapped them in the face.

I could have written this post except sub "older daughter" for "middle son"! Sometimes I am surpised I survived my second pregnancy! I was exposed to Fifth's disease in first trimester, menegitis second trimester and mono third trimester (I also was 34 weeks on 9-11). Fortunately, DD and I were both fine through all of them.

Nevermind!! She has strep! He said she did have a slight rash but it wasn't Fifth Disease. Go figure.

Now I'm fighting to get her in to get her tonsils out before next Fall!
