Didn't you say the same thing after the last game?
Yes, both referees were terrible. Our media has also been critical of the officiating. I rarely criticize them (and it’s not due to the results honestly), but this WC has some of the least experienced or poorly trained officials I have seen in a tournament (and MLS referees would be only a slight improvement).

Two results you don't like and you complain about the ref in both, just saying.

I’m not talking just about those. Qatar should have had a penalty today. Yellow cards should have been issued in other group matches but weren’t. VAR is not being used enough either.

I gotta side with Buzz re: today's officiating (in the Qatar match as well as the USA/England). In Qatar, the hosts should have had a PK. Could have changed the game. In the US/England, while I did disagree with a couple of the calls, I don't think they would have been "game changers". The ref did NOT "cost us" the game. But I thought he made some poor non-calls.

If England got the yellows they deserved according to the laws of the game, they would have changed tactics and more conservatively.

I've watched probably 3 games a day most of this week and VAR has been used in most. The purpose of VAR or any video review is not to stop and look at every call. Constantly blaming officials after a lose just makes a person look like a sore loser.

VAR hasn’t been used properly when the field referee is making continuous obvious wrong calls. European referees haven’t been that bad. But referees from weaker confederations have been consistently terrible (whether that is due to a lack of training or a experience I don’t know).

Doubtful. Did the US play more conservatively because they had four players sitting on a yellow? If any of them would have picked one up in yesterday's game, they would have had to sit out for Tuesday's "must win" game.

I was not impressed with the ref in the game. I still don't think he's the reason we didn't score.

We didn’t score due to not having a true number 9 (which is why Prefolk should be there instead of Morris or others). We played disciplined not conservatively. England kept getting away with fouls that should have been called. Because they weren’t, it affected the flow of our tactics for the match.

I notice that starting Tuesday, the 4 games don’t have staggered starting times. 2 Group A games are scheduled at 10am EST while Group B (USA-Iran and England-Wales) are both at 2pm.

Is this to ensure that teams don’t change their styles of play? Because they won’t know the result of the other match within their group?

Yes.

Not to accuse Wales and England of cheating but if Wales beats England 4-0 with England playing by a B team, will no one question it or just say England underperformed again? The referees could be reason both England and the USA have harder games than they should be.

Wales and England are not going to work together to screw the USA.

You need to stop using the officials as an excuse and simply accept the results of the matches.

I’m saying they will work together, only that England just needs a tie and their second team in terms of talent should easily defeat Wales’s first team. I accept the results. The poorly trained officials have been a talking point for many pundits as well. If England don’t put in a quality effort against Wales, your response will be “Well, they’re group leaders and it’s their prerogative to do what they want so don’t complain”. I know we control our own destiny so it should be a non issue but this tournament has me nervous about the unexpected. If Canada gets unjustly booked tomorrow and Croatia doesn’t will you still say the referees haven’t been a problem?

You say you know the game but you don't seem to get that two countries that have a huge rivalry are not going to work together. Wales beating England any time but especially at the the World Cup, would be like Canada putting a team together and beating the top players in the NFL. Wales is not going to play in any manner except to win.

As for officials, the vast majority of pundits complaining seem to be those in the USA. Overall, outside of the US it not happening. There were plenty of complaints about the official in Canada's opening game but it's not something that people are bringing up over and over again. Officiating, good and bad, is part of any sport and it 99% of the cases it's not the official that costs the team a game. I've coached volleyball for over 30 years and at a high level for close to 20; have I ever complained about officials yes I have. How many times would I say the difference was the officials, maybe 2 or 3. If there is an issue with the official tomorrow I will not say that means there is a problem with officials. I will comment and then let it go. Continuously bringing up the referee as the problem and two other teams colluding against your team is not a good look.

I know the game and history of the two teams/countries. I’m not accusing them of colluding only that England just cares about results, period. They only need a draw and rivalry means nothing in a WC. They will rest their starters thinking the backups can do the job. Wales will give their all but England doesn’t have to grind out the needed point. My point is England is going to give Wales the opportunity to advance through their player selection vs shutting Wales down from the first whistle. Rivalry means nothing when it comes down what’s best for a team that’s already looking ahead to a round of 16 berth.
