My school is putting on this production for the play.
I have yet to see this.. although i have been meaning to, i just haven't had the time.. and i have no clue what characters are in it.
I'm trying to avoid singing solos, and i heard this was a musical.
I would like to try out for the play, but i have a question:

Is there a sarcastic or an annoying female role in this play/movie?

Thanks :]

I saw this in sixth grade. It annoyed the heck out of me.

I have to say this is my absolute least favorite musical ever.

It's kinda boring.

We did this for our middle school play. I developed a strong hate for it.

Anyways, Yenta, the matchmaker could be considered the annoying female character. The mother in the play also makes a few sarcastic comments throughout the play. The mother has some singing solos off and on, but at least in my school's shorter version of the play, Yenta did not do any singing by herself or even in small groups. However, she participates in the song Tradition which is the opening song of the play, sung by most, if not all, of the cast.

Same.
Except for I saw it in seventh grade.
I slept through most of it, or ignored it.
I couldn't stand it at all.

Eh. Fiddlers on of those shows. You have permission to hate it or extremely dislike it... but if you're a theatre kid you've got to see it. Its a classic. Everyone knows fiddler and if you ever are randomly singing broadway songs its most famous songs ("Tradition" "Matchmaker,Matchmaker" "If Momma were Married") all come up quite often. I can recall a time a few weeks ago where I burst into "Tradition". Because I burst into random musical theatre songs at all times.

As for the parts... I saw a post a few up from me that gave my exact answer. Look at that.

These are basically most of the parts in the play:
Tevye — A wise, hardworking, poor dairyman and father who values tradition.

Chava — Tevye's third daughter who wants to marry a Russian gentile, Fyedka.

Golde — Tevye's stubborn and hardworking wife.

Hodel — Tevye's second-oldest daughter who is in love with Perchik.

Lazar Wolf — The brawny butcher who would like to marry Tzeitel.

Motel — A young tailor who is in love with Tzeital.

Perchik — A student revolutionary who is in love with Hodel.

Tzeital — Tevye's oldest daughter who is in love with Motel.

Yente — A pushy matchmaker.

Avram — The bookseller.

Bielke — Tevye's youngest daughter.

Constable — A Russian officer who is friends with Tevye but must help orchestrate pogroms against the Jews.

Fruma-Sarah — Lazar Wolfe's dead first wife.

Fyedka — A Russian non-Jew who wants to marry Chava.

Grandma Tzeitel — Golde's grandmother.

My school did this play last year. I like it. My friend and I had a good time wit this play.

Thanks guys.
From the reviews I've gotten from yall.. i don't think i'll be seeing it.

But a pushy matchmaker, eh? well that sounds like fun!
Thanks :]

The role of Fruma Sarah is fun also. She like 12 feet tall and is in Tevye's dream and she comes in and screeches. It seem like a very fun role.

My friend was one of the main roles in that play. I didn't go see it though. I'm not a theater person -- NO OFFENSE TO ANYONE!

I don't know how old you are, but I have seen this musical before and a great part that doesn't sing solo is Chava. She is one of the daughters of the Teyve who is the main character.

i liked the movie...
i kinda know some parts by heart...
now i feel really weird cuz all you ppl didn't like it, but i liked it, so there...
lol, i am sooo weird...
