I don't know why I'm up so late...I drove 6 hrs today to get back to Knoxville so I could make Fiddler on the Roof rehearsals. Everything is settled. turns out I only missed 1 rehearsal and all they've done so far is go over songs. I'm quite familiar with the score. :)

Good news and bad news. The good news is that there is no problem with me not being able to do the touring part of the shows run in March. (a whole extra month of performances in a city about 45 minutes away.) I can't afford to miss that many classes, and I want my spring break free so my friend Chris can come visit! So now I get to both do a show and go home over spring break :) I'll be in the show throughout most of Feb.

The bad news is...I don't get to be one of Tevye's daughters...I'm in the chorus again. *sigh* People keep telling me that I have a wonderful voice and that my time will come...but it's been 8 years since my first musical, and I'm no closer to getting passed chorus than I was then. :( Is it so wrong to want a real role? I'm thinking I will be a chorus girl for the rest of my life.

They have me playing one of the mothers. Funny, I always thought I looked younger than my age not older. Of course, all the "daughters" except the main 3 look to be about middle school age. So I go from being a farmer's wife in Oklahoma to being a Jewish mother with 3 children in Russia....

Thanks for the update, Angie. I am sure you will have a great time with Fiddler, as with all the others. Any as said, your time will come. I have always heard it is tough getting those first breaks. {Hugs} and break a leg. :sunny:

who must know the way to make a proper home?
a quiet home, a kosher home.
who must raise the family and run the home? so Pap's free to read the holy book.

Angiebelle, of course. a nice Jewish girl playing a Jewish mama. enjoy it.

Congrats on being in "Fiddler", Angie . . .

Persistance and hard work WILL pay off. I know this for a fact. Keep following your dreams, Angie, and one day, you WILL have a real role!

Angie, I know exactly how you feel. Keep your head up and just continue to audition, and you'll get that role you want. So many times a role is given to someone because of their height or coloring, rather than quality of voice. The directors want to cast to "fit". One day you have all the different aspects they're looking for, and you'll be the one they'll fit the rest of the cast to.

Have fun with Fiddler. I was in that show about 5 years ago. I was also in the chorus. The dancing and music are fun.

Break a leg!

I'm sure your big break will come Angie! I hope it's soon. One of these days I will be going to see you STAR in a play at the Cape Playhouse...I'll be in the front row with a green ribbon on:D

Enjoy what comes along for now, life goes by too fast not to enjoy every minute of it.

{HUGS}

Have fun with FOTR - and say hi to Chris for me! :)

Hi Angie,

It's Val. I'm the one in theatre here in the Tampa/Clearwater, FL area. I'll be opening in "Gypsy" next week as Mama Rose!

My very first part was in "Fiddler" as Fruma Sarah! I really only got the part because of my light weight (right out of H.S. I was 95 lbs. - 33 yrs. ago) and because I knew the song.

Didn't get to play the daughter (Tzeitel) until several years later. Had to work my way up through the chorus.

It's true that sometimes people are cast because they "look" the part or look right with other people auditioning for other characters. Height, weight, and facial look have to be part of the package in addition to singing/dancing.

And sometimes you're a strong singer, but not particularly the best one for acting the part. I wouldn't ever want to be a director -- that's got to be tough!

Again, break a leg and remember that every show you're in gives you more experience, more exposure and more to put on your resume! :D

Sorry you didn't get the part you wanted but I'm glad you will be in this play. One of these days you will get a lead, I'm convinced.

How fun that Chris is going to be with you for Spring Break.

Fiddler in one of my very favorites, and the chorus people are always really entertaining. So keep your chin up, and one of these days you will be the STAR. Until then, you're always a star on the DIS. :D

I started getting cast as a mother in high school yet people always tell me I look younger than my age. I've been Motel's mother in Fiddler, a mother in Bye Bye Birdie......and so on.

My only experience is community theatre but I agree with others, sometimes there's no logical reason as to why some are cast in lead roles. Even though you're probably tired of hearing your time will come, it most certainly will.

I just watched a tape I made of the Kennedy Center Honors that was broadcast about 2 weeks ago. One of the honorees was Chita Rivera who's career is still strong after almost 50 years. One of the performances in her honors featured hundreds of "gypsies".....kids who are dancers or in the chorus of countless musicals. Chita started as a gypsy and she certainly found the spotlight. I have no doubt you will too!

Glad to hear you made it back safely Angie. I know that feeling all to well about being in the chorus. Fortunately for me, I decided that playing in the orchestra was more fun than chorus and I stuck with that for a long time. For you though, I hope that some day you will get that big break... keep at it and I am sure you will!

Angie glad for the update. What city will it be in in March? I feel that one day you will have a role in a major musical! I wouldn't even make the chorus. {{{{{HUGS}}}}}
