Does anyone know where I can get my fico score without having to sign up for a trial or pay for it?

annualcreditreport.com is free.

sign up , and you can request one each month , equifax one month, experian the next month and trans union another month. they will be free if you seperate them. you will get three this way and be able to monitor them closer than in seeing it once a year. your other option is to apply for something that you will be turned down / denied credit for and then you will be entitled to a free report. apply for a car loan online for a rolls royce and say you have no income , have high debts. lol. get a turn down letter and then use that to get free credit reports. Good Luck to you.

There was a special a couple of months back on http://www.myfico.com giving free FICO scores (this is the official site for the "real" FICO scores), but that has been over for awhile. Maybe check this out from time to time to see if some deal comes along.

Note that getting your credit report does not get you a credit score (unless you pay extra and then you get the so-called "FAKO" - you don't get the actual FICO except from myfico).

So you lowered your score by having an inquiry????

OP, just pay for the score or don't worry about it. Score is only important if you are applying for a big loan and they pull your credit and will give you a copy.

Just recently (last month) pulled my & DH's reports from the big three. It's not free, but for $5/6 you can get your actual FICO from Equifax when you order the creditreport, no monitoring required. Experian and Transunion both give you the VantageScore (also called FAKO) NOT the actual FICO. I thought it was deceitful, because they all offered to give you your credit score - I assumed it was FICO, didn't know about the other one.

Just wanted to amend this ... FICO stands for Fair, Isaac and Company. It is used by Equifax, Experian and Trans Union to secure a credit score.
Banks, Loan Co. and other institutions use these scores to grant credit. FICO was started in1956, a credit score of 300 to 850 is possible. The higher your score the better your chances and interest rate.

A credit report and a credit score are two seperate things. The free report can be received annually. The only time that I've seen the actuals score is when I've paid for them.

I'll second creditkarma.com I paid for my score through Myfico.com and got the same score from creditkarma for free. They don't require a cc or anything.

Two problems with your post:

1) annualcreditreport.com does NOT give you your FICO score for free. However, when you order your actual report (for free) you will be given the option to also get your FICO score (for a fee).

2) You can not get one a month every month. You can get 1 of EACH of the 3 Credit Reports PER 12 consecutive months.

Hope this clarifies.

I remember being told once that checking your credit score actually lowers it, too. Checking the credit REPORT is fine, but the SCORE lowers it.

Don't know if it's true but that's what they told me when I bought my car, fwiw.

I agree with you. Applying for credit that you don't need or don't intend to get is not smart, because, as you pointed out, you score will be lowered by the mere fact that you tried to obtain credit.

You checking your own score or report does not lower it - only hard inquiries from businesses/banks lower it. I got my score monthly for awhile and it was never impacted.

They lied to you!!! I have scorewatch due to a problem we had and I can promise; your score doesn't change if you check it! But when you apply for credit you know you won't qualify for in order to get the score, all you're doing is hurting the score even more.

thanks everyone for all the tips and info. the reason i want to know my hubby's fico score is that he wants to take out a military commissioning loan next spring, and we are working on improving his credit so it can happen. i need to know where he stands. I have already received his credit scores, but I have no idea about his number, and that's usually what it all boils down to.

Do you happen to have an AMEX? Certain AMEX cards offer a perk of a free credit report and score.

I took advantage of that this year and saw my score for the first time in a long time. I normally don't bother with my score since I have no real need to apply for credit. I just monitor my free credit reports on a rotating 4 month schedule (i.e Experian every April, Trans Union every August, etc.)

As for lowering your score with an inquiry, it's really not that big of a deal unless you have something huge like a mortgage coming up or your credit is so iffy that every point counts. If you're certain your credit is good and just want the score for curiosity's sake, I wouldn't let the >10 points an inquiry would drop your score keep you up at night.

I suggest you go read all the newbie items at creditboards.com

You're getting your terms mixed up. IF you have his "scores" like you say you do then you have his "number" I think what you mean is you have his credit reports and you still need his number/score.

I wouldn't bother paying for the score until you have everything possible cleaned up on all 3 of the major reports. Which are Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian. Dispute all errors!!! Everything from old addresses, old employers, incorrect details on any of your "bad" credit items....clean up all the bad stuff and don't bother to supply them with the "extras" like current employer, phone numbers....they don't need that info. After all 3 major reports are as clean as possible and all credit lines currently open are paid down as much as possible (ideally below 30% of available credit) then purchase your credit score.

It's really worth it to read everything you can for newbies on creditboards.com so as to learn the terms and processes.

Sorry, I meant that I have his three reports from annualcreditreport. I've been writing so many different terms that I got myself all mixed up. :)
