Fibromyalgia Thread

The cost is staggering for us. We had three estimates, equipment was the same at all three, warranties for 10 year from the company we chose. Almost 9,000 as both the heater and air conditioner need to be replaced. This puts a huge wrench in the works for our upcoming vacation for my b-day and for Christmas.

I'm so sorry about the heat! First because fixing a furnace is EXPENSIVE :( I know exactly what you mean about the cold. Last few days not only has my pain been up a bit but I can't get my feet warm. They are so COLD that nothing short of saoking them in hot water for half an hour helps. :( I HATE COLD FEET!!!

Sending warm pixie dust your way!!!!

I have a real bad case of Fibro and don't know if this is related to Fibro or my other issues. I get burning and inability to move my left side, I wonder if it is similar to what you are speaking of.

Ok totally new weird symptom. This afternoon I felt what I thought was a bee sting or painful bug bite. Since I was wearing long pants I couldn't tell which. Then about a half a dozen times during the night I again was "stung" but there was no bee or bug in sight. I also have no marks. Anyone ever have anything like this??

Also after a very succesful birthday party for my sone I now can't sleep and find myself in bed with my blackberry too tired to be on the computer to awake to shut off the lights :(

Hope you all are in dreamland tonight!

I went to the dentist the other day. It was a scheduled appt. While I was there I asked if he could take a look at an old filling. He did and decided it needed to be replaced. He asked me, doesn't it bother you? I told him it'd been aching for a couple weeks, yes. He asked my why I didn't come in sooner. I told him that I just decided I'd wait until my appt. because I had a ton of stuff to do and didn't feel the need to take the extra time out. He shook his head and asked my how I dealt with the discomfort. I told him "Hey, I've got fibro...I'm used to feeling at the very least uncomfortable most of the time, this wasn't anything I couldn't deal with."

I really like your attitude!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

I need some help though. I have chostrochndritis (sp) and it has been acting up a lot lately, but this week has been very unusual. DS is sick. Today is day 5 with a fever and this is the longest he has ever had a fever. I have spent every 3-4 hours piggy-backing meds to keep it down. Today we decided to try and sweat it out. So as you can see, I haven't slept much and my nerves are totally shot.

For the last two nights, and now a few moments ago, I get a spasm, grip, pain, not sure how to explain in on my right side in the rib/lung area. I tense and feel like I am not breathing. It SCARES me. I used the spigometer (the thing you blow into to see if your lungs are working) and it is well within normal range, so I don't think it is my lungs. My ribs are sore, but I haven't been doing anything good for myself this week. I am not coughing. Ice helps a bit. Does anyone get this and how do you get over being scared. I just took a few tranquilizers to hopefully help and I am getting out some ice to reduce what may be swelling. I am also going to take a tummy pill incase it is gas...

It's just been a really long week and I am totally in the pits. DS missed all week of school, so that is bad. My cousin (50) is dying in the hospital (today will most likely be her last day) She was a huge alcoholic, and I am not surprised, but very sad she is leaving a young son (18). My daughter is away at college and has been very selfish with wanting the car when I can't possibly let her knowing all that is going on. My Mom's mad because I won't go to the hospital, I can't, DS is scared since he has never been this sick, and honestly, I haven't done a Darn thing all week except cater to my son because I am scared of what may be wrong with him.

Sorry to do this to all of you, but I had to get it out. I need to get back to breathing normal, stop the silly tears, and maybe get something done around the house. I have already decided that making dinner is out of the question, but I have made food all week for everyone, especially good stuff for DS to help build back up his resistance.

Has anyone had the grip in the lung/ribcage area.
Has anyone had a child with a 101-102 fever for 5 days with a cough, is it okay?
Can anyone send me a hug, I really could use one....

Thanks for letting me ramble, get this out, and for being here for me. And for understanding that I didn't even consider helping any of you today. Very sorry, Diane.

Sorry you are having so much trouble :hug:

My kids have all been home sick at least one day these past few weeks as did my husband for two days so you are not alone!

As for your son he is older so I would not worry too much it sounds like a typical case of the flu. Since it is a Friday I would call his DR ASAP many close down their phone at 3 or 4pm on Fridays. Seems like I always wish I had called the Dr 4:30 on a Fri:sad2:

I think the pain your having is musle spasims. Mine is different mainly causing heart attack like symptoms but is triggered by fatigue and stress both of which you have in abundance. I also feel like I cannot breath so much so that I was diagnosed with asthma for two years before we figured it out. Those attacks are the closest I've ever come to having a full blown panic attack it is scary to feel like you cant breath!!!

My advise is call sons Dr to confirm that flu or flu like thing is going around and get DH to take care of Son for one night before you end up in the ER which is where these attacks used to put me.

Sending lots of Pixie dust your way!!!

One thing that may help DS with breathing is getting some Johnsons and Johnsons soothing vapor bath. Pugging up tub and taking shower with using vapor bath to create steam. I began using this after my kids were born and it works great for them and me! It may also help you feel like you can breath because it will open passages. We also use those vicks tube like nose inhalers. If you happen to have tee tree shampoo in the house this can make a great body wash that also produces some soothing vapors clearing our the head and chest. hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions. We are trying to hold off on meds for the fever to see if his body will do it itself. His last dose was 11am, we are at 100 right now. I am continuing his cough med with codeine every 4 hours, as the cough increases the fever. He is drinking and eating very well, so I am not worried about that. We have never had the flu, so this may be something like it, but he has chronic sinus disease so I am going to have them check that. I made an appt for 11:30 tomorrow. I am done playing phone calls with the office. I just want to know what to expect. We have never had anything like this.

He only has a cough and a fever, no congestion above normal everyday stuff. Chills when the fever is high, and feeling of warmth when it breaks. No crud with the cough, it is dry as of now. He doesn't seem to have aches or pains, but I think my body has them for him..;). I am usually the level headed Mom when my kids are sick, but I guess I am really tired. This makes me doubt myself.

So I am doing everything right I think. I am off to rub vicks on his feet, we don't own a vaporizor anymore but I will buy one if the dr. feels it will help, and I have to get another thermometer since he totally blew one out...

Thanks for being here for me. It seems to be a bad month. I so much need to just pay my bills and see if there is any extra for an overnight somewhere. Thinking maybe NYC. We have a cheap bus or I have credits on Southwest, and I have no problem just walking and window shopping. The Christmas stuff will be up soon and the tree will be out. Maybe I could even find some free stuff going on. I just need to escape for a day or two. I wonder if anyone here is somewhat close??

This really does sound like a form of the flu although it is unusal to not have a lot of congestion.

Three years ago this Jan we all started with the flu then strep throat which twice now has turned to scarlet fever for my ds. Aparently he is allegic to the by products of certain strains of strep which then produces the spots and skin infections related to scarlet fever :(. It was a long 8 weeks because we each started our illness in a stargard fashon so there was always at least two people sick or about to get sick :( that was the year I developed my 9month heart condition and fatty liver disease. Ugggg!

I too long for some time off. Dh and I have not had a full 24hrs alone since 1998!!!! We really need some time for us.

Hi All!

Welcome Newbies!

Tink, I hope your DS gets better soon. Glad you got an appointment at the Dr. for him. Keep us posted :grouphug:. I get those terrible chest/rib pains where you can't take a breath and they are muscle spasms. Went to the ER one morning as the pain was so sharp I couldn't breath in and it wouldn't go away. Best way to get over the fear is to relax but it's hard to relax when you can't catch your breath. I use icey hot when I get those now and it helps. If you don't have icey hot try the vicks, that works for me too.

Bright - YAY YOU GOT THE JOB!!!!!!! Congrats, I am so happy for you! :thumbsup2

So I had this brilliant idea that I should do some volunteer work since I no longer have kids stuff to do since they are 22 and 17. I started training this week to become a certified Tax Aide person and do taxes for the elderly at the senior center. Little did I know that training starts at 9AM 2x per week and after week one I am exhausted. 9AM is a huge stretch for me and I "forgot" what it is like to have to jump out of bed and be somewhere. UGH! But I will do this. Pehaps I will be able to sleep earlier.....

Sending pain free vibes for everyone! :wizard:

I totally agree with Tigg, you should let DH take care of DS for a night and rest. And the rib/cage/lung spasm grip thing, I have been getting that for years, the dr said it is between my 4th and 3rd rib. Fibro she said, I will trust her cause I've had it off and on for years and I'm still alive and have had my heart tested many times and it's strong as ever the dr. said.

Like I said earlier, the dr. told me last year when DS had a fever of 103.5 that it is possible to get a fever with a cold. I have never had congestion with the flu. If DS is eating and drinking then he should be good, gives his body a way to fight off whatever he has. Check him for sinus infection though, could be that too. Does DS have body aches and pains? He also could have an upper respiratory infection which could be why he is coughing. Is it a dry cough or a phlemy cough?

Well I'm sure the dr will check him out and make sure he is ok. Let us know how it goes. And if you are stressing and crying YES that will make DS fret too!!! You said you didn't see him much but he will sense if you are worried. :goodvibes HUGS and take care.

Quick update, Kevin has pneumonia. The PA put him on a med that is contraversial, and I am a wreck. Going to call the pharmacist and dr. in the morning and may take a trip to Urgent care to see if he needs breathing treatments. I count my blessings as he has been healthy up to now, but I have no experience, so I am hanging on a thread.

I'll keep you all updated. Diane.

Pharmacist said that he has seen the med prescribed for young adults (didn't call him a teen or child) and that the medication is used for pneumonia all the time.

Didn't call the drs office as Kevin's fever is gone as of now. I will take it hour by hour and we will be seeing the Doctor (no PA's) tomorrow morning.

I am glad you got meds for him and the fever is down. I am sorry that he is sick and you are understandably upset. Sending prayers and PD your way. :grouphug:

Home, very tired. Kevin is pretty sick and on a cocktail of meds. Hoping they work soon. Doctor was a bit upset with my color, I have to see him Friday morning. I will keep you all updated. Diane.

Sending prayer and PD to you both. :grouphug:

wow, you are going to get a lot done. i'm in too much chronic pain and am now ill with a respiratory problem. good news is, my wheelchair came today. after having a horrific time on sunday, we decided we needed a wheelchair for me. not an easy thing to accept.

I have been thinking about all the people in this thread and hoping that things are going ok. :grouphug:

Everything ok here in PA. Too tired and/or busy to post much :sad2: but I'm managing to get what I must done.

Next week my kids will be in school a whole week and no other appointments to mess up my rythem. Now if I can keep them all healthy and me and Dh can do the same I might just get a full week to get something done :worship: I'm looking back and it looks like April was the last week they all were in school and no apointments to screw me up. with the fibro this is such a big thing. took me months to get over the trip and since and school started etiher I was sick or one of them stayed home or some dam appointment, breakdown, visit etc messed me up.

I want one stable week so i can get ready for Thanksgiving. I even played hookie at Parent teacher conferences today. Just didnt want one more thing to do besides two of my kids in gifted and my youngest just went from barely reading to nearly reading chapter books in the last month! She was having trouble with speach which we knew was throwing her off but once she got it man she Flew! Knowing all that what are they going to say..your kids are A students..well duh I know that so I stayed home...bad mommy:laughing:

DH now on Blood pressure medication. not really unexpected since he has gained so much weight and is working/shcool 100 hrs a week. this weekend he is taking three days to focus on his last two projects for the sememster. locking himself in a hotel room in town so he can get them done and be able to enjoy Thanksgiving. All the travel has really taking its toll on him this semester. The first week of Dec marks the halfway mark for his Phd:banana::banana::banana:

I have gained all the 35 lbs I lost last spring back. Not unexpected either since I just cant get a consistant schedule, keep getting sick etc. I am sleeping well:cheer2::cheer2: which is part of why you guys dont hear from me much.It is so wonderful to really escape into sleep. Something I do not take for granted!

Bright Congrats on the Job!!!

lovemygirls. Sorry it has gotten to the point of a wheel chair:hug: hopfully you'll get some kind of relief soon. Its great that you can be so positive about it. My Dh gets mad because I hate to use my Handicap plate so i'm not sure I could be as gracious as you are being right now. Good for you:thumbsup2

Eduke are you enjoying the great weather up there in MA? My son had me very distracted today so I couldnt enjoy it but I'm looking forward to walking around the shops in town tomorrow to enjoy this great indian summer! Hopign to get my DH away from his room long enough for lunch together.

Tink I know you are always looking for a good recipe here is one I used last night for a apple and spice pork roast. I thew it in the crock pot and didnt add the white sugar and it was GREAT!!!!:dance3:

A few weeks back I had some chicken breasts I had to use and was too tired to do anything. I noticed some left over salsa in the fridge so I threw it in and the kids LOVED it! It came out much juicier than when I use dressing. We are going to try pineapple salsa next time.

As always

Sending good vibes :goodvibes and pixie dustpixiedust:
