Personally I think that's great news - the smoking area on the way from Liberty Square to FantasyLand always really bothered us (it's such a small path and the smoke is really hard to avoid with people smoking on both sides of it).

Another positive ! Now, can they start doing this at the resorts too? Had a great room at CBR a few years back, but every time we walked out of the room we got a dose of 2nd hand smoke from the smoking area right outside.

IMO, these areas should be as isolated and hidden as possible.

I am a former smoker - I went to WDW last October and I was about 2 years smoke free (now I'm over two years smoke free). I was VERY nervous that I would be tempted to smoke while I was there. I have to say, I barely noticed any smokers at all! I never got tempted. I saw a couple of the smoking areas and I walked through one, no big deal. No one blowing smoke in my face, no one smoking while walking in parks, no one smoking in lines...no one even smoking at pool.

I'm glad they are still leaving at least some of the areas. People smoke. They need smoking areas.

Eek, I hope not. The locations seem pretty well placed at least. One in every general area.

Some smokers are courteous and aware of where they are and who they are around and act accordingly, others not so much.

On a similar note, my first thought on this is that none of it matters if they enforce the smoking areas the way they have the last few times I was down there (as in, they didn't seem to be enforced at all.)

Exactly. I have seen guests tell CMs, plain and simply, "no" after being instructed to do what they are doing somewhere else (smoking, drinking). IME, CMs never push the issue or get security because it causes a scene.

I'm surprised they're getting rid of the spot near Space Mountain (benches right next to where the train goes by). That one is so out of the way, that I can't see it would bother anyone.

Yep you're right. I think a lot of smoking scofflaws want to do the right thing but can't find the smoking area because they keep reducing or moving them from year to year. Or they look at the map and determine it's too darn far away.

I believe it's the same as for tobacco products. They don't want to put the onus on the CM to make the distinction since cigs and e-cigs are so similar.

Most smoking areas I see at WDW are the 3 foot radius around wherever the smoker decides to light up.

Correct. E-cigs go in the smoking area & nowhere else.

That's too bad, smokers are treated like lepers enough already... I think if they would provide the few places they had with shade, and make them easier to find, it would be a plus. And, yes, even those using an e-cig are forced into these areas, which basically exposes them to the very thing they are trying to quit.

I must be oblivious. I have never noticed anyone smoking outside of the designated areas in the parks, so I assumed the policy was being enforced.

I really don't care how many smoking areas they have, I just want them to be more out of the way than they currently are. I'm glad the one by the castle is going away. I also find the one right outside the exit to Great Movie Ride beside ABC Commissary to be in a bad place. I don't want the smokers to feel like lepers, but I also hate that it is difficult to avoid some of the smoking areas and the smoke that finds its way outside those areas.
