Few questions from a current member wanting more points

We bought resale back in 2008 so have all the regular DVC perks. If we buy another resale contract will the points associated with that contract be subject to the exclusions for resale? I'm confused. Also, our current large contract is a Dec UY. We are looking at smaller point contracts but how hard is it to manage reservations with different UY's? We are not in a huge hurry to buy so would you wait and try to have the same UY for all contracts?

1. Yes. You will be able to use points from your existing contract to stay at Riviera, for example, but not points from a new contract.
2. It’s not that hard- you still only have a single login to DVCMember.com, and once logged in you will access to both your memberships (different UYs will have different membership numbers). And in your case it might be a helpful way to keep track of pre-restriction versus post-restriction points. Having said that, if you are adding on at the same resort you would be better off trying to keep the same UY.

Two UYs is two membership. If the contract is small, then to use those points with your other points, even at any of the L14 will require a transfer. Once transferred, those points can’t be used online which means only calling MS.

You can only transfer current UY points as well. The only other option is to book some nights on one and some on the other.

I have 3 UY but each is large enough that I just book trips on each without worrying that I’m borrowing in one even if I have current UY points.

If you visit on a regular basis for F & W for instance, you could buy a small contract just for that visit with a different UY, otherwise I would at the very least keep the same UY.

We have two resale contracts, one old enough so no restrictions, and a bunch of direct points. Three use years. It’s very easy to keep track of everything on the web site.

Having all your points in a single UY is much nicer IMO. There can be reasons to not do so or reasons it doesn't matter like if you plan to only use that new contract on it's own independent of your other points. If the December UY works for you though I'd try and get the smaller contract in it too.

FWIW we have 2 UY's. It's not hard but sometimes it gets complicated when I do want to use the points together. If you are buying the smaller contract at the same home resort then my feelings become a bit stronger about keeping it the same UY. Overall managing 2 UY's isn't difficult but it's still easier with one.

If I buy a contract at the same resort and same UY will they remain seperate contracts? It's easier to sell smaller contracts so I'd prefer to keep them seperate. Another question, lets say I buy resale at Boulder Ridge, am I excluded from using those points at the newer resorts? That's not a big deal to us but I want to make sure I've got it right.

Yes, they would still be separate contracts. When you booked a room the system would show you both and you'd select 1 or the other or both if you needed points from both for the reservation you were making. And you could still sell one or the other without selling both if you wished to.

It is correct that the new contract could not be used at Riviera or by all appearances any resort going forward. But it could be used for any of the original 14 resorts.

They never combine the actual contracts. Same resort and UY keeps them in the same membership but they act like one big contract when booking even though they are two distinct ones.

Any L14 resorts bought on the resale market now are restricted from booking RIV and future resorts,
