Ugh...I now am starting to loose faith in the system. The Department of Labor never received our applications for unemployment! We filed them on Sept 6th! I called a week ago to ask and she told me to be paitent b/c of the influx of applications. Which I understand. I called today, We weren't even in their system yet! ***?! So the guy today was really nice and put us in the system. At the end I asked him when we were going to see any results....a month. By then we should have jobs, so does anyone know if that means we won't receive anything at all or if they will still pay us durring the time we were out of work(backpay?)???

The deja-vu is incredible. We went through the same things last year.

Mrs. Kreamer, I don't want to tell you what to do, but at some point, just walk away or else your life becomes nightmare of tracking down lost paperwork, missed phone calls, etc.

I know! That's is what our goal at this point is, to move on! We both have some job interviews lined up, so hopefully they will be fruitful and we can pick up and move on

I applied to FEMA last year after the hurricanes. We were denied on both claims. I was left with quite a bit of repairs and other things that insurance didn't pick up because of the deductible.

I live in Central Fl and carry homeowners and flood insurance. It seems to me that those that carried no insurance made out better than those that carried insurance. Don't flame me for my opinion but it makes you wonder why you should have insurance sometimes.

Well that makes me feel somewhat better...

My SIL lives with her parents and she got a FEMA check, as did MIL/FIL. They listed her as living there but independent and so she got a check too, but smaller, I think $800, while MIL got the $2000. MIL also got the 2nd check for $2300. My other SIL only got a 2nd check for $600 though because they said her house was assessed, deemed unlivable, but since she has insurance she doesn't qualify for the full amount so they gave her $600 instead. So keep trying. Even though you didn't own your home you should still be entitled to something.

We went through the same thing last year with Charley. I don't know one person who got a dime from FEMA.

Well, we went through a minor hurricane here in Virginia Beach and I know people who got money they were not entitled to get. They've even been prosecuting a few.

I have no doubt that there are so many people who are going without the things they need while others are double dipping.

FEMA probably doesn't have a very good system for disbursing funds in the first place. Then when it's put under stresses that are significantly greater than anything its ever seen before, it's no wonder there are problems.

I doubt the War in Iraq is the problem or that it has much impact on funding for Katrina survivors. It sounds good but the relationship everyone seems to be asserting just doesn't wash.

Guess what we didnt get a damn thing from FEMA. I know people that didnt get any damage and still got 2 checks!! What the hell??? Our house is damaged not to mention property but we dont get anything. And this is what I pay taxes for? Oh well. I lost my job but am looking on the bright side,,,,Hurricaine season is almost over.

It seems as if FEMA gave only to folks who had nothing....the ones with damaged homes have to wait and wait and wait for Insurance adjusters.

I am glad to see you posting again! I was worried about you, Katrina was coming, you had posted about your horses and then when I didn't see you posting again... well, I admit I was thinking some pretty sad thoughts when your DIS nick didn't some up with any recent postings.

Are you ok? How did your horses fare?

I am an evacuee as well from New Orleans so I have some understanding on the frustration with FEMA. I did get assistance which I am thankful for. But I just read on NOLA.com under the forums about if you were on assistance before the Hurricane that FEMA is giving an addition $6,0000. Now that is on top of the initial 2,000 and 2,300. Where do they get these numbers. If a person is getting section 8 I know that they probably dont have much and I feel for them. But right now I reallly really feel for the homeowners who lost everything and pay their taxes and insurance because they are getting the short end of the stick.

Thank you for asking and careing. The horses are fine. We didnt have time to move them so let them loose in there pasture. They were injured and im sure terrified but are fine now. There barn is damaged but the roof stayed on, glad I have insurance on everything. What was funny, the fence was distroyed and there were trees down in the pasture but they stayed right by the barn. They also acted like they were in shock for awhile just like us.

For "dumb" animals, horses sure can be smart sometimes... You have 5, right? Glad to hear most everything/everyone made it through relatively unscathed.

The roof of the barn is *still* on?!? Wow, that's amazing. Maybe your barn-builder should build some houses...

I bet your horses were in shock, that makes perfect sense to me. I'd be in shock too, if I went through the wind/rain/etc that they went through.

I've been searching for missing people for their families and have had not had success *yet* with my present missing-person, Onelia Cherrie. Four of the five people I've been looking for have been found. The last two, however, did not end happily.
I am now only looking for one - Mrs. Cherrie.
