I am a Christian but I respect other people's beliefs. I don't believe in that kind of "witnessing" I believe that you witness by the way you live your life. People "see" that you have peace and joy in your life because of your beliefs. If they ask you about it then tell them but don't badger people and tell them they are "pieces of meat?!" My son had kids approach him at school asking if he would like to join FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes). He said no and kept walking down the hall. One of the kids followed him all the way to his next class asking him why he wouldn't join. I am not sure where he got this but his response was:

"Well, I am not a Christian, and I am not an athlete. That just leaves fellowship and this ain't the Lord of the Rings. But thanks anyway!"

And it's precisely why I'm more spritual than religious and don't go to church.

When it comes to religious talk, if I don't ask, don't volunteer.

I had a pentecostal woman stalk me for a year after frog and I got married. I agree. These "commando" attacks are inexcuseable. I would never be converted or even consider looking into ANY group who approached me that way.

I became a committed Christian because of the things I observed in people I admire, not because someone tried to scare me into it.

I got that from a co-worker. She told me that if I didn't believe exactly the way she did, I was going to spend eternity in he**.
I told her, then I guess I'll just go to he**.

I've also had people tell me that I'm not Christian at all. I just say, that's your belief, not mine.

Oh boy ,are you right. Try being Catholic. I can't wait for the "Catholics do too worship Mary" crowd to show up on the thread about the Nuns being excommunicated.

I love reading threads about other people's beliefs because it interests me to know how they arrived at the place they are. I think sharing our journeys can be enlightening and help us to live together better. I try not to make statements that would sound like my journey is somehow better or my conclusion is somehow superior because I really don't believe that it is. I believe that it is FOR ME, but I'm not in a position to tell others how to live.

Fitswimmer - it has been my experience that people like you and froggyswife are in the minority. Far too many Christians do not care how I arrived where I am. They seem to believe that I am misguided, misinformed and sometimes that I am just plain stupid for not believing. It is always a very condescending, patronizing and insulting experience.

Has anyone seen that show that Kirk Cameron does on TV about how to witness? That gives you an example of the last person that I ran into at a Baby's R Us that was handing out flyers and trying to witness to everyone. I almost wanted to ask her if she was trained in the Kirk Cameron School of Witnessing!

And yes - I am limiting my comments to Christians as I have yet to be approached and witnessed to by a Muslim, Jew, Buddhist, Pagan etc...

Exactly. When only one group is out there doing the harassing, of course their is going to be a negative reaction aka Christian bashing. It's not bashing to react to harassment, especially harassment by only one group.

It's amazing what some Christian groups believe and think. I am constantly getting crap on my door from a local church. I have no desire to join theirs as their beliefs do NOT align with my own. I'm lucky to be a part of a church and sect of Christianity who believes that this type of witnessing is wrong. I personally hate it when I am "witnessed" to or whatever they call it. Of course these are the same fools that think my religion is evil and thinks that I am a devil worshipper. Some people really need to get a grip and get a life with that kind of thing. It's very off-putting to me.

I wasn't really recruited by Jews... They really aren't into the who seeking converts thing, In fact, they turn you down 3 times if you want to convert

Somehow I think eternity in hell might be easier to handle than eternity with a bunch of pushy people trying to tell me how to live. My beliefs are in my sig, but don't feel like you have to read them!
