I'm new to the Community Board (usually I'm mostly on the DLC Board) --

Just thought I'd see how many fellow community theatre actors there are among the DISers. I've acted pretty much in community theatre over the last 30 years in PA and now in FL.

Let me hear from ya!

Me! I have been acting at our local community theater for about 5 years, and in our church productions (Fiddler, Snoopy, and Secret Garden, etc.) for the past 10 years.

I am currently assistant directing A Christmas Carol/Youth theater. We have 48 kids, 4-18. I don't think I will ever do that. This Spring I might audition for The Dresser, and in September we are doing Grease. I am definately auditioning for that. I have only been in musicals, but want to break into straight shows soon.

Our website is Longmont Theater Company . I am on the board, but not a very active member.

Thanks for asking, anyone else?

Thanks for responding to my thread! That's great about your theatre company -- looks like a great lineup. I know that Moon Over Buffalo is supposed to be a good one!

I was just cast as Mama Rose in "Gypsy" here in FL (New Port Richey -- near Clearwater/Tampa). Such a great role!

I met my husband 23 years ago when we did "Camelot" together -- he was Lancelot and I was Guinevere. We're married 21 years now!

I just LOVE it and so does he. We both did "Harvey" and "State Fair" this year in Largo, FL. I love musicals, but also love the comedies. I haven't done any straight dramas yet, though.

Here a website www.eightoclocktheatre.com/members.htm
with a picture from "Harvey" in it -- I'm the one in the front with the blue dress and grey wig and my husband is the "old geezer" in back row, 3rd from the left. He "aged" well for the show...

I'd love to hear from some more of you!

I haven't done it in years but it used to be my passion back in the good old days!

Welcome to the CB, Fojmo!

Well, don't know if this counts or not, but I have been the high school theatre director/advisor for the last eight years. This will probably be my last year and I am thinking about starting a community theatre group to take up the void. Right now we are gearing up for the Spring Musical and we are doing Sound of Music. My DD will be playing Gretel :) We just finished up a production called Robin Hood the Next Generation which was a story about Robin and Marian's daughter. Welcome to the CB:)

FOJMO: I love hearing about other cities community theater. I always worry if I moved, that I would not be able to find a community theater to work in. Now I know, if I'm in the Tampa area, where to go. Thanks for sharing.

Me! I'm a theatre major in college and have been doing community theater since I was 13. I've been in the chorus of a number of shows (no actual roles yet)- Cinderella, Wizard of Oz, Annie, Oliver, Rags, King and I, and this spring I did my university's production of Oklahoma! I found out a few days ago that I've been cast in a local production of Fiddler on the Roof that I auditioned for. What I've been cast as still remains to be seen, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's one of Tevye's daughters. I adore musical theatre and dream of Broadway. :) I'm moving to Orlando after I graduation and will start auditioning for Disney.

What a great role to aspire to -- Belle on Broadway! I wish you luck.

"Fiddler" was my very first show (1971). I've done it 3 times, the first 2x I was Fruma-Sarah (the ghost of Lazar Wolf, the butcher's wife). The 3rd time I did it, I was Tzeitel (Tevye's daughter that gets married). It's a terrific role and a great show! Good Luck!

I can't believe they said you were in the show, but didn't tell you which role. I'll keep the pixie dust coming your way!

:D

I enjoy community theatre also, but since having a family I limit shows to one every two years or so.

Instead I have started doing background work in local films and an occassional (VERY occassional ;) ) industrial or commercial.

They don't take as much time and I get paid! (Imagine that....)

I love musicals, but the complete lack of singing and dancing talent keeps preventing me for some reason so I normally stick to comedies!

Good luck with all your productions!
